ON A SERIOUS NOTE...I have some personal news I decided to go ahead and share with everybody...a few of you know about this already, and thanks for your prayers the last couple of weeks

My husband was diagnosed with cancer yesterday, in his tonsil, of all places. (He doesn't smoke or anything.) It's contained, first stage, doesn't appear to have spread, and surgery should take care of it. And if you have to lose a body part, well, tonsils ain't so bad. Lots of tests still to do...still have to meet with oncology people. Don't have much else to report about it. Just appreciate prayers right now.

It should all turn out okay...but until then...well, it's not very okay.

And feel free to keep joking and being obnoxious everyone...I don't want to be a downer in our thread lounge... Laughter is the best medicine...

That is very sad to hear NNS. Cancer is very frightening. But if it is indeed the first stage, then the chances of recovery are quite high IMO. The killers are usually the ones discovered quite late. If you don't mind my asking, what were the symptoms and how was it finally diagnosed as cancer? If he only needs surgery and no chemo or radiation, then it is indeed very fortunate. Hope everything turns out well!

BTW, do your kids know about this?

He just happened to notice some swelling in his throat, but it wasn't sore, and asked his doctor about it, who sent him to an ENT, who did a biopsy. All fairly quickly. So they'll just take the tonsils and some lymph nodes too as a precaution. Won't be for a few weeks. A lot of hoops to jump through first.

NOTE to all you big tough guys out there who don't like going to the doctor. If something ain't right...get it checked out!!

Oh, and my kids know. We are very matter of fact around here... their granddad has had cancer twice, so to them it's not a big deal. He had an operation and got better...(they live out of town so they didn't ever see him going thru radiation etc...they have no idea about that stuff). So they aren't too worried.

After the doctor left us in the exam room, I looked at my husband and said...well...should we go get drunk? We thought maybe we should tell his work he needed to spend the rest of the day with his family...in a bar. Alas, it was only 10 a.m. But needless to say, we are looking forward to happy hour tonight.
