Maybe they should just admit they don't really know...

Although when I worked in horticulture, we had a saying..that "plants will make a liar out of you every time"...(IOW, as soon as you guarantee something will or will not grow in a certain location, it won't or will anyway).

StL must be the worst place to forecast weather or something, because it is ridiculous how wrong they are. Memorial Day weekend case in point. The "big" weather guy in town actually apologized this time... (Dave Murray if you're reading this C girl)

I dont' even pay attention to the forecast anymore.

Coincidentally it's also one of the hardest places to grow anything either...

And then some, I just thought someone might recognize the guy on the left.
I think he looks to be in pretty good condition.

I think i prefered this to Casablanca. I seemed to get into it a bit more.
For B&W crime movies, try:

The Asphalt Jungle
The Killing
Kiss Me Deadly

I'm a bit surprised that STL weather is hard to forecast well. The great lakes region are influenced by the microclimate of the lakes, and so forecast busts are quite common. But I would expect better accuracy in the interior regions. Forecasters basically use weather models to predict weather. If the different models converge, then there is a high confidence in the forecast. If they don't converge, then you try to do your best based on model history, etc., but there are larger chances of having a bust.

But it IS weird when they say 100% chance of rain, and not a drop falls to the ground, or when they predict partly cloudy skies and it starts snowing. The worst is cloud cover forecasts - they are very pertinent if you are into amateur observing which relies on clear skies. The cloud cover forecasts, at least in upstate NY were absolutely pathetic.

That might lead to other Steve Martin movies, and you know what that means: Cat juggling.

The jet stream is always going right through here...shifts up and down and the weather totally changes on a dime...

I've always thought (without any knowledge about it whatsoever) that it also has something to do with the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers right here...storm systems charge across the plains and then right at StL they slide up or down and go around us. Happens all the time.

They forecast a foot of snow and 20 miles out it goes south or north of us (usually south) and we get a dusting if anything. It really happens all the time. So I don't know who the heck is in charge of the computer modeling, but the computer model in my brain, called experience, is usually right.

I don't think I've seen Kiss Me Deadly.

I'd add Laura, Double Indemnity and the Postman always rings twice (the original) to the list

Cranky, the avatar is really confusing me (yes NNS, you win the bet). I keep thinking it's NNS because she's used that avatar.

Honestly, I always found it odd that girls had girl avatars and guys had guy avatars. Seemed a bit strange, and well gay to me. But, now I finally get it. When scanning through quickly, I keep thinking it's a chick. Very confusing.

Weather: I freeze in Cleveland all year 'round. Rarely wear shorts, unless it's daytime and sunny and we're not going to be inside AT ALL. Always take a jacket with me for restaurants and such because I freeze in the air conditioning. Eight years later and I've yet to really get used to this cool climate, compared to StL.

Imo, StL AND Cleveland forecasters, both equally suck. Honestly, can't say which is less accurate. I think it' a coin toss really. Yes, the great lakes are the issue here. In StL, I too always heard it had to do with the rivers . . .

Cranky, when we bike the East side Emerald Necklace, we start and finish right by Yours Truly and always end the ride with a good breakfast there.
