I could list a bunch of other old Paul Newman movies, but then everyone would KNOW I have a fetish. However, I never really got into Butch and Sundance. I mean, it was okay, but I just don't get what a big deal people made over that movie. The Sting was great, but Paul was already too old by then.

Uh-oh. I have to confess that I love B movies as much as independent film. I saw The Ice Pirates in the theater and walked away not entirely unsatisfied. I also dimly recall seeing Megaforce and managed to live through the experience. I didn't walk out of Showgirls either, so my toleration for crap is pretty high. The closest I came was Wild Wild West, which I saw with a brother who I had not seen for a couple of years. As the credits started to roll, he leans over and says, "Quick, let's get out of here before someone sees that we watched this."

It helps to have IFC, TCM, and the Sundance Channel as well as seeking out DVDs other films made by directors or starring actors of films you find interesting.

You need to give it another chance. It is really a fascinating film. There are four different tribes of humans shown. Each is distinct. The primitive language was designed by Anthony Burgess (A Clockwork Orange). The grunting is actually dialog that consists of a few hundred words. The gestures are also consistent and were designed by the author of The Naked Ape. It is an interesting depiction of life a few tens of thousands of years ago.

For those who have not seen it, the plot consists of a prehistoric tribe's fire going out and three members of the tribe are sent to find another source and bring it back. It's a French film based on a French novel.

I first saw it a long time ago and always remembered it. It showed up on Skinemax recently, so I watched it again. I still like it.

Of course if you want an easier film about prehistoric humans, there is always One Million Years B.C. (with Raquel Welch in a fur bikini), Clan of Cave Bear (crap), and Caveman (starring none other than Ringo Starr).

Nah Mad Max was called Road Warrior in the States and legend has it that it was dubbed because the locals couldn't understand the Australian accent!

Trainspotting was subtitled for certain scenes in the States. I also remember seeing a Jamaican film that was completely subtitled.

The Holy Grail keeps popping up among the favorites. I haven't seen it in decades but it was great. I knew people in high school that could practically recite the dialogue for the entire script. I can't, so this is a cut and paste job:

King Arthur: I am, and this is my trusty servant Patsy. We have ridden the length and breadth of the land in search of knights who will join me in my court at Camelot. I must speak with your lord and master.
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: What? Ridden on a horse?
King Arthur: Yes!
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: You're using coconuts!
King Arthur: What?
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: You've got two empty halves of coconut and you're bangin' 'em together.
King Arthur: So? We have ridden since the snows of winter covered this land, through the kingdom of Mercia, through...
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Where'd you get the coconuts?
King Arthur: We found them.
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Found them? In Mercia? The coconut's tropical!
King Arthur: What do you mean?
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Well, this is a temperate zone
King Arthur: The swallow may fly south with the sun or the house martin or the plover may seek warmer climes in winter, yet these are not strangers to our land?
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
King Arthur: Not at all. They could be carried.
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: What? A swallow carrying a coconut?
King Arthur: It could grip it by the husk!
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: It's not a question of where he grips it! It's a simple question of weight ratios! A five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.
King Arthur: Well, it doesn't matter. Will you go and tell your master that Arthur from the Court of Camelot is here?
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Listen. In order to maintain air-speed velocity, a swallow needs to beat its wings forty-three times every second, right?
King Arthur: Please!
1st soldier with a keen interest in birds: Am I right?

....

King Arthur: Look, you stupid Bastard. You've got no arms left.
Black Knight: Yes I have.
King Arthur: *Look*!
Black Knight: It's just a flesh wound.

Eclectic selection!

Mad Max was Mad Max. The second one was The Road Warrior, the third one was Beyond Thunderdome.

I thought about Blair Witch Project after I posted worst movie selections. I saw it on TV with lots of commercials so it lost any kind of suspense it was supposed to have had. Anyway, I kept thinking, can't these people at least sharpen a stick or something to defend themselves?! Crap, I would've been like Rambo making fortifications around my tent! And who really cared if any of those dweebs got killed anyway?

Steve McQueen = motorcycles and bad boys. I like that. My husband and I have a joke from that movie he made with Ali McGraw (now I can't think of the name of it, but there was a remake with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger). But she's got to drive the getaway car, and when they have to take off, he yells "Punch it, baby!" He says it at least twice in the movie, so we love to say that when we're running to the car late somewhere - which is often, lol.

just checked - the movie is called The Getaway (duh).

This has been so peaceful, I feel like we are at a good comedy show, and the obnoxious heckler finally got thrown out the back door.

Just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to any of you who stood up for me in that situation. I appreciate it!

Oooh quite the visual "Brady soaped up and wreathed in steam" - wow it's just got really hot in here.

Love it. Thanks for that I needed it (dealing with family medical issues right now).

And I like Edie too

Funny you should say that. I went out on my Harley and held up a 7/11 last weekend for a pack a jacks. I'm ditchin the Harley though. Too many wannabes ridin' 'em. And it isn't fast enough gettin' away from the cops.
