![]() If McCain can appeal to hispanics and Obama turns them off then California might be in play. As for New York, you are right; Obama will already have pull in the traditional Northern. Dem areas I think it comes down to seeing what kind of appeal McCain has with independents and then trying to nullify that. I think McCain has lost a lot of his independent appeal since 2000. He seems to talk big but will snap right back into line when it comes to backing the core of the Repub party.

People may laugh at Ed being a running mate. However, the guy has genuine earthiness that would appeal to huge amounts of people. He used to show up every year at 6:00 am in a pair of sweat pants to start our local century ride. Of course, I don't know how a jewish New Yorker would play in Mississipi.

Obama probably needs someone with experience to compensate for his relatively short resume.

I have this crazy idea that he could find a moderate republican to run with. It would make his case for trying to bring people together.

Don't know much about Webb other than what I just read on Wiki. This guy has got to be considered a very serious choice. He has some good experience. Talks with a southern accent. Was a Marine in Viet Nam. Hell, he was in the Reagan Adminsistration as Secretary of the Navy. His position on Iraq is very sensible. He will have cross over appeal. What was his position on Irag prior to the war?

And one-upped George W. in that incident where Bush asked him how his son was going in Iraq in front of the cameras... and Webb replied "None of your business, Mr. President" or something like that. Webb had a good point in that the last thing he needed was for terrorists in Iraq to be notified that there was a Senator's son fighting there. "Senator's son". "I aint no Senator's son". Reminds me of CCR and "Fortunate Son".
