Default Highroad gets new sponsorship

Just off weightweenies: High Road will be no more, as of the Tour de France Columbia Sportswear company will start a three year sponsorship with them.

Team Columbia. Sweet. When do they hire Boonen? It's a crying shame Simoni is retiring. Perhaps he might be interested in a DS job.

Does this mean Columbia are going to make cycling apparel... or do they already make cycling apparel?

Don't think they make cycling apparel, not sure if they're planning to - from what I read it sounded more like they saw it as an opportunity to market to outdoors-types (ie. cycling fans perhaps do other outdoor activities as well).

I'd assume more so than the United States Postal Service did.

Columbia has a strong presence here in Italy, even in large sporting retail chains (ā la Decathlon). It is already a well recognised brand and I suspect that sponsoring a major team will further brand awareness here.
