Which is exactly how we'll see this year if it comes to light in the future that the main protagonists (once you subtract the Cobra) - CSC and Evans (if I can take the liberty of using the term "protagonist" to describe Evans) - were doping.

we gotta wait and see on Evans. I have suspicions, guilty ones, he is clean.

Last year hearing the news where he had contact with Ferrari was sure he was a doper.

Then hear that all the team in the 2004 Vuelta bar Evans Zabel and Konecny were on blood transfusions.

He fell out with Ullrich, Klodi, and Guerrini and I think Kessler at a Telekom Alps camp in 2004.

So, not convinced of his guilt. I really want to hear him speak on Ferrari.

Thunder... just stay off the Evans apologism IMO. It sets you up to be attacked as duplicitous/prejudiced. His record suggests that he would have had to have been Abraham Lincoln to reject the team programs. Just like Jaksche didn't reject them... or even really consider rejecting them. And his performances and reticence to condemn dopers (he is quite capable of making a stand on other issues like "Free Tibet") speaks for itself in my book. He may not be on a cocktail program... but I don't think we can start defending him yet as some bastion of clean cycling. And quite frankly (excuse the pun)... his personality on display doesn't fill me with confidence that he has the principles of unselfish righteousness that he would need to outweigh the temptation to improve through doping.

Not attacking him as a doper... and defending him as probably clean... are different IMO.

I lean in the middle Cranky.

One thing is for sure, if he is doping he should get a better program!

edit: Cranky does speak raw unvarnished sage interpretation. chapeau.

Look... you and I both know that I don't know very much. So one of my only ways of getting a half-ounce of respect in here is to "chapeau" you occasionally....

you know enough, not everyone is a Bro, HR2, Ed073 and Classic1.

Plus the brothers Vadar, gotta credit the Vadars, pure genius. "The force is strong in the Vadars".

Slater: Vader. That's a cool name.
Slater: Yeah, people have weird names nowadays. Once I pulled arrested this man-lady, and his legal first name was "****".
Michaels: He was Vietnamese, so it was spelled "Ph," but still that's pretty jarring to see on a drivers license.

could be, but he showed early.

3rd world jnr tt champs, when he was a mtn bkr. fair effort.

winning the tour of austria as a mtn bker. Rumsas and Basso were competitors. Won Travers a Lausanne as a mtn bker, beating Chechu and Armstrong one week after the Tour.

Held the maglia rosa in his first Giro as a 24yo.

Think Schleck finished about 70th in the Giro as a 25yo rookie.

I can remember the talk about him when he was only a kid, 17 or 18. The AIS coaches reckoned then he was one in a million. Never been any doubt about his ability.

How old was he when he got the nickname "The Lung"?
