An exciting route doesn't always make the racing more exciting. But a boring route almost always makes the racing boring. Just look at the Eneco tour.

Tour de France route can't be qualified as boring... However it looks like.
It's designed to bring excitement. Only an alien can make it boring.
And I'm afraid this is the case.
It's not boring by itself.
This year's field would bring much more excitement on this (2009) kind of route than it brought on 2008 route. And you must admit 2008 Tour de France was exciting.
