from what i've read, the Tour de France's speed was slightly slower than years past. the spin from a rider or two was that the parcours kept them riding into headwinds more than other tours. seems to me a bit of a handy explanation which neglects to mention the radio ban slow down and the usual slow pace on flat stages, but there you have it.

I was at Verbier & Contador flew up that climb like a scalded cat. My mate & I were shocked at how lively he was. I also thought they were very fast at Ventoux.

He flew up the last part of the climb like a scalded cat - but judging from the size of the group that he left, there weren't exactly pushing the pace - apart from Contador and Schleck Jr the next 40 or so riders within 3 minutes of each other... Hardly a day of massive selection.

Besides, you'd expect a climber like Contador to make most other riders look silly on a final climb of the day.

Fair point. That being said I've been following the T de F for 20 + yrs & I'd like to think I've a sort of feel for it. The Fignon / Le Monde era felt 'cleaner' & the same applies for 2008. I appreciate this is all 'gut feeling' but my instinct is 2009 was business as usual vis a vis the doping.

Yup, clean as a whistle!

Even laymen know the sport is a joke. The irony is that it's only the true fans who are still blinded by pride.

Did I say it was? Personally, I do believe that your head is so far up your own a$s that you can't read the posts for the poop...

The sport is about as clean/honest as it was in the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s... blah, blah, blah and riders taking trains in the 2nd edition of the Tour.

Fignon admitted to doping and LeMond made a mysterious return to "past performance levels" in the 89 Giro in a way that made Armstrongs year long recovery in the that 90's look positively sedate. Not sure how you can be off the back for the first 2/3 of the race suffering to hold the wheels of the domestiques, "take some iron shots" and then podium in the final time trial before winning the Tour and the Worlds with displays of power in the finale that pretty much haven't been seen since...

... clean.

Contador accelerated like other small climbers of great talent in years gone by - like Millar and Herrera. When those guys took of it was 'see ya later guys...'

I have a good storage facility in the country that I can freeze stuff.

Maybe I can be the Australian version of Fuentes.

You can beat your head against the wall, but you'll still be wrong in rationalizing the doping of today with the cheating of yesteryear.

Chances are, you're not the guy who has to tell a promising young rider that the only way to the top is via a carefully monitored medical program. Until you're put in that position, you're just another ball-licker who enjoys propping up cheats.

Presumably he was well rested after his endeavours by then.

Agree : there is nothing there of him

You can't be that thin and not be anorexic. He's not anorexic so there is a reason why he is so thin. AICAR.

Something not right there. Particularly 11 days after the Tour de France.

They took drugs then - they take drugs now - they'll take drugs in the future.

The poop is always the same - just the levels varies.

Cheating is cheating whether it's pot belge or computer controlled micro dosing.

Fortunately I don't care.
