Default Movies about Cycling

Why there are not movies about cycling at all? There are tons of movies about baseball, football, basketball, soccer, hockey, and many other sports but what about cycling?

The only movie I know about cycling is Amarican Flyers with Kevin Costner.

That's ashame as it's not a great movie nor a great cycling movie.

Try Breaking Away: breaking away - Google Videos

That's a classic...

American Flyers:
Speeding down the road in full cycling gear topped with a cowboy hat....awesome! How come one out of every four riders in the race was sporting a porno moustach? Don't they realize how un-aerodynamic that is?

Flying Scotsman : Graeme Obree.

Best adaptation of a sporting biography that I have seen (across all sports) in many years.

Lead actor (an American) is superb in it.
(Johnny Lee Miller???)

It was the 80s, that explains the moustaches.

What it doesn't explain is the fact that the Russian rider looks like he spends more time doing bench-presses and curls than doing interval training, or why the team leader is at the FRONT of every paceline.

I found both American Flyers and Breaking Away to be a bit wanting; Breaking Away seemed a bit more inspired.

Nope, English. Surprisingly enough, I actually thought he was Scots.

Trainspotting is by far the BEST movie he's been in.

Plunkett and Maclean (with Robert Carlyle, another Trainspotting alum) was a fun little flick.

Of course there are.
How an 18 year-old Lemond crossed the Atlantic to became a professional in Europe with the dream of one day winning the Tour de France, in front of a legendary Hinault!!! There is a store there.

A reader this week asked me for suggestion on a few cycling flicks that him and his buddies can catch up on. His timing was perfect because I was in the middle of writing this post on my favorite cycling movies
Breaking Away (1979)
American Flyers (1985)
Quicksilver (1986)
The Flying Scotsman (2007)
Road to Roubaix

All the others are really good especially The Flying Scotsman another really good one is Hell on Wheels, it is a documentary about Rolf Aldag and Erik Zabel in the Tour de France. Really cool behind the scenes look
