Default Seattle mayor picks "missing link" on Burke-Gilman Trail

Nickels picks bike trail with 'green line' favored by cyclists

By Susan Gilmore

Seattle Times staff reporter

It's not all they wanted, but Seattle's bicycle community is applauding a proposed route to extend
the popular Burke-Gilman bicycle trail through Ballard's industrial area.

Mayor Greg Nickels today is scheduled to announce his preferred route to close the 1.5-mile "missing
link" from 11th Avenue Northwest to the Ballard Locks, and much of it goes along Shilshole Avenue
Northwest, the so-called "green line" preferred by bikers.

The route already has drawn protests from some business owners who say no route along Shilshole
Avenue is acceptable.
