Hello. If this question has been asked/answered a few times, I apologize...its my its day on this board. I received a Diamondback C8 Computer for my bike...after installing it today, it appears that nothing works. What I mean is, there is a digital readout, so the batteries work, but there doesn't seem to be any communication from the magnet and sensor to the computer. The directions are very bland and un-specific, especially when it comes to operation. Has anyone ever heard of this brand before? Or, are all two-button systems essentially the same thing? If so, how do I start and stop the readings with each ride? I even went to the "Diamondback" website and there wasn't any mention of this product. Thanks in advance. Rich |

Rich, I have the same computer on my bike. These may be obvious questions, so please bear with me: - is the magnet on the same side of the wheel as the pickup? - what's the distance between the magnet & pickup? - Is the unit fully seated in the carrier? I don't know much about other computers, and the instructions I had seem to been misplaced. In normal operation, the right button is for pausing; the reset between rides hold down the left button while pressing the right. to have the unit start "counting" after reset, press the left button until the m/h (or k/h) flashes. Hope this helps! Doug ps - can you tell me the three digit code for a 27" wheel? "Rich Reitman" <rreitman@cox.net> wrote in message news:R_gVa.26198$o54.859@lakeread05... > Hello. Thanks Doug... To answer your questions: the magnet is attached to the right side of the spokes...the senser is attached to the inner (left) side of the right fork...so they pass each other. the distance is about one inch yes...the computer is "locked" into place on the two points on the bracket So to begin a ride, simply make sure everything is set at 0 and the m/h is flashing? Is there a speedometer that should be constantly changing or just the AVG and MAX speed readings? Also, does the trip timer work the same way? Mine hasn't moved when I tried testing it by riding around my block... Sorry for the stupid questions...I never used one of these things before and its frustrating to see it not function. Move the magnet and sensor down closer to the axle. You want just enough separation so that they don't touch as the magnet passes by. I usually shoot for <1/8" The magnet, as it passes by, operates a reed switch inside the sensor. The cpu reads the 'clicks' as the sensor makes contact. Then computes the speed from how fast the clicks happen. Pete |

By the way, you can check what the wiring is OK if you take the strongest magnet you can easily find and wave it back and forth as near as you can near the sensor. If this results in a speed reading, then the magnet distance -- or a magnet that is too weak -- is to blame. If you get no speed reading, the next likely culprit is not having the computer fully snapped into the "cradle" so the sensors aren't making contact. Third likely scenario is that the wiring is shot. If it's been cut, you can just link it back together like any other cut wiring. |

If you look on the tire you find a number arragment like 26x1.9 or 27x2.125 or something like that. someone gave me this handy website to look at today. http://www.sheldonbrown.com/cyclecomputers/index.html if you do need to enter a code look up on your tire what it says and go to this website. Find your tire and match it with whats on the chart and you should be able to follow the chart across to your code. if you have any more questions about this and think I may be able to help e-mail my hotmail account. Thanks to everyone with their help and tips...I got the computer working this morning and had a lengthy ride to try it out. Rich "Eric S.
