Noting a phenom. the other day where spinning relaxed in a lower (easier) gear got me a better short time trial than a more applied run in the next higher gear, makes me wonder where the wisdom or practice lies WRT keeping a record of each ride. If I'm keeping weather and time of day, I feel it would be uh, dumb? not to put the time down. I'm thinkin that though the param I focus on may change over time, if I have a few simple params, I don't have to feel 'chained to the stopwatch', or denied 'fun', and if I want the time later, there it is. Yet I do push harder or at least sustain on the timed part. Thinking about it I have, without realizing it, adopted a 'no coasting' rule (dayum), and no looking around on the timed portion; hah. Anyway wondered if most ppl kept logs, if so omit timed runs, or not? Yadda, yadda. The other thing that came to me is if I'm looking for 'trends', such as regular (predictable) fluctuations, and I'm out every day timing it and pushing it can I miss the larger luctuations. Not, I don't think, in the beginning, but after maybe a year or so of 'tuning in' on your bike (start or restart post layoff), then there might be larger trends and it would be hard to mask them anyway. (hm). Though I kept a weight training journal for many years, I don't think I ever seriously went back and referred to it, except maybe the immediately preceeding workout. Still, a fairly simple carrot is '(duh) hey if I ride I get to write down stuff in my spreadsheet.' ;-p FWIW, -B -- Email Replies to johnson<nospm>01j <att> ntelos <dott> net |
