Default why?

Kevan has got to be one of the biggest trolls ever in the
rec.bicycles heirarchy - why does everyone bother to
reply to him?

Seriousy, has anyone ever seen a picture of him with a bike
or even verfied his identity?

I get the feeling he was tired of the serious political
debaters on the political newsgroups and decided to set up
house here where he thought he left-leaning political
assertions would be more readily accepted and the resident
political debating skills would be less finely honed.

I have no doubt Kevan's a sincere, true, avid cyclist.

And Kevan does make good cycling-specific contributions.

That's as far as I can go on this topic. I ain't comfortable
talking around folks.

If you have an issue to discuss personally with Kevan, I
believe his email address is readily available in any of
his postings.

Politics is not the business of RBM, except insofar as it
helps our cause as cyclists. Some of us have very strong
opinions regarding political issues of the day which we
choose to air in other fora.

If you and K would not provoke each other, and would agree
to disagree--as we're supposed to be able to do in a liberal
society--then RBM will go on just fine, thanks.

K has made some useful contributions regarding cycling in
the past, so don't knock him on that front.

You haven't seen a photograph of *me* on the bike yet, have
you? What's your threshold for credibility? If you wanted
to see faces and bicycles, hang out at the bike club. This
is usenet.

Because when you get him *off of politics*, he seems like a
pretty decent guy. He's also reasonably articulate when
expounding his political views, even if he seems stuck in a
rut about them.

I think this is a web page devoted to his fixed gear bike:
http://home.sport.rr.com/cuthulu/fixie/ These photos display
a certain affection for the beauty of Bianchi metal that
seems unlikely to occur in someone who's just faking
interest in bicycling to troll newsgroups.

As I recall, the Globe & Mail is a big paper up there.
Toronto, yes? So you don't want ZK to be buying copies of
the G&M from his neighbourhood newsagent (and probably at a
price, having to be imported to distant BC...) waiting to
clip & save the Kevan FanKlub sticker.

Very nice. Looks like you might need to adjust your chain tension though KS.

Did that. Those pics were taken just after it was assembled,
so there has been a lot of shakedown since then.

It's my main squeeze. It's an awesome ride on those fat
tires -- smooth, agile and responsive. I love riding it in
the city, floating intersections, hopping curbs, track
standing to show off even though it's only for people who
have no clue how cool what I'm doing is. My mechanic
really outdid himself. His name is Kevin Rivet, and, if
you are in Shreveport/Bossier and need some bike help, he
is the man to see.

There is one problem. It has a Surly Fixer, which fits onto
a normal hub to make it a fixed gear. Well, it comes loose
over time when you brake with your feet, so you have to
tighten it periodically. If you don't, then you have to
rebuild the hub. No biggie, really, if you stay on top of
maintenance.

It is quite possible (after all).
