Default attention: R. Chung or some other Frenchman

I recall reading somewhere that at the Centenary parade after the last stage, all the living Tour
winners were there except for Pantani and Lemond.

Pantani, I can understand, he's either in the loony bin or trying to avoid going back in.

Lemond? I would like to find out for certain that he was not there before commenting.

So, for your Frenchmen or Americans in Paris: what does it say in the French media about the
attendance of the former winners at the celebration?

thanks,

K. Gringioni

I'd answer, but I've killfiled your posts. You know what a killfile is, don't you? It's a usenet
expression for a filter that removes any of a particular author's postings from your news reader.

BTW, I had to split before the centenary parade -- my four-year-old's attention span (and bladder
capacity) had been exceeded.

Here's a message from Ilan in which he says Lemond was absent:

And one from goulot who says the same thing:

Absolutely nothing other than the victor's name. The idea for the American media and philosophy of
some Americans is: If you aren't fresh (as an immediate winner of the Tour de France) then you are history. No
respect. No media time. End of Story... Oh yeah they (the media) at one time did mention something
about a guy who had a hurt shoulder or something...:-)

It would've been nice to have GL as a commentator on the possible theories of attack and mindsets of
the riders' and teams. I guess 4's company and 5's overkill.

I guess I really expected A WHOLE LOT MORE coverage. OLN did a wonderful job... Thank God I have
cable to see it.

There were plenty of stories referencing interviews with Indurain, Merckx, Hinault and their views
on Armstrong and his chances for 6. There is stuff from Riis, even stuff from Hampsten.

Nothing from Lemond though. Not even claims of the virtual 5th or 6th victory

That's just a sampling from the mainstream N. American press.

who cares about centenary parade?

Three weeks ago I saw Eddy M on the bike, in what looked like a too rare FAT burning expedition.

Charly Gaul wasn't there either. He was at one of the stage finishes where he gave out the mountain
jersey. He's in pretty bad shape, physically, and I don't think it's going that well otherwise, from
what I saw in his interview. This is esepcially impressive when compared to his contemporary
Bahamontes.

Jan Janssen wasn't there either, and I'm pretty sure that covers everyone, like I said before,
Lemond didn't do any of the ceremonies.

OK, track world's coverage is starting, ciao.

Yes, Charly Gaul was there and yes, Jan Janssen was there as well. I even shot pictures of them.
Gaul was sitting inside a big blue car and wore a white jacket to match his white beard, his white
hair and his white underwears. He was not STANDING and waving his hand, but you still could see him,
especialy since there was a large yellow sign with his name on it. Janssen was in a black cabriolet.
