Default frame sizing?

Is it preferrable to select a frame size a bit too small and compensate by installing a longer stem
and seat tube, or to buy a frame with the correct size top and seat tube and use a standard sized
stem and seat tube? Some of my cyclist friends lean toward buying smaller frames and longer stems.
They say that gives them more control over the bike.

Please email your opinion to me at etriguy@yahoo.com

Thanks in advance for your time.

Not quite how usenet works. This is not your private answering service. If 500 of us sends you
the one correct answer to your question, first you'll be confused, second you'll be overwhelmed,
and third, the other 300 people that will post the same question next week won't be able to
google the answers.

And of course we won't be able to correct one another's postings.

Obvioulsy the right thing to do is get the right size. The new trend towards compact frames in 3
sizes where they swap out stem and seat post only benefits the bike companies. It is not good
for riders.
