Yes. What can I tell you? I did the route marking, led the Friday Night tune-up and rode the 100Km last year. This year I visited and added my approval - so far - of the site of the camping, dinners and so on. We got pretty excited reading about it, but before we schedule a couple of vacation days, we figured we'd look for a little "word of mouth" (or keyboard) about it. mike --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I'm not familiar with the brochure. This is what I have seen ====================================================================== === Friday - rider check in, tune up ride, dinner and entertainment. Camping and the start finish line for the Saturday ride will be at Camp Ho Nan Wah 2609 Boy Scout Road, Charleston, SC 29487 Saturday - THE BIG RIDE - Century-100 miles, Metric 62.5 miles - Half Metric 30 miles, and Family Fun ride 15 miles. New route from last year. Less traffic, more scenery. Baby sitting available during the ride. Sunset Happy Hour 3-5, hour devours, wine, beer and steamed oysters at the Maritime Center 5:10 Tall Ship construction site tour. Just after dark, join the Mayor of Charleston and light the 65-foot Charleston Christmas Tree Then back to Martine center for BBQ Chicken steamed vegtables, soup, and desserts from famous Charleston restaurants. 10 warfside st, charlestons, SC 29401 30 min after dark, watch the Christmas Boat Parade, with the best view on the harbor, at the Maritime Center and fireworks show! Silent Auction with lots of cycling gear. Sunday - Various rides on John's Island, James Island and Downtown. Breakfast at McDonalds included for registered riders 3 hour bicycle tour of the historic district in Downtown Charleston (not included in registration fee) Sunday morning for non-cyclists, - a walking guided tour of famous and unique Charleston Restaurant kitchens, walk in the back door, taste the specialties of the house, and ask the chief questions, write down the recipes you like ... bakeries, restaurants, and more- check the web site for contact info (not included in registration fee) ====================================================================== ====== ====== We were overwhelmed - literally - with the response to the 2002 ride. Even with the failings, that we watched develop due to the huge numbers relative to what we expected, the comments have been entirely positive. Last year we planned on 250 - 300 riders and had almost double that. This year we are making provisions for even more riders. 2002 saw unusually cold temperatures and high winds giving us wind chills far below our usual shirtsleeve/t-shirt weather for December. Without hills, a stiff headwind is a typical challenge.
