I made a slideshow of June's CM in San Francisco. Please go to http://chromoly.net/CM A tip of the helmet to the Melboure CM. Viva and keep on tunnelin'! We didn't do any tunnels in June (but we did the Stockton AND Broadway Tunnels in May). Our June ride included the GG Bridge, but that's pretty hard to stopper. Back in the city, we had ZERO cops and we did a real good job of taking care of ourselves. We got out of downtown fairly quickly and were mostly touring neighborhoods. Castro, Upper & Lower Haight, Laurel Heights. We even visited Senator Feinstein on posh Presidio Terrace. Nobody was hurt and the Mass is gaining support. Even the motorists are getting more tolerant if not outwardly supportive. I think more and more people see this as a fun, spontaneous and open gathering and want to join. CM is a demonstration, NOT a protest. We are demonstrating our numbers, our strength, our presence. Acknowledge urban cyclists! CM is a disruption, NOT a protest. We are disrupting traffic. We are disrupting the dominant paradigm and our oil-war-generating 'national interests.' We are disrupting power. And when the powerless try disrupt the powerful and create some of their own power... look out for the backlash. But backlash from the grown-ups just strengthens CM's authenticity. The Mass ain't phony. There are no corporate sponsors, there are no leaders, there are no press releases. There are only the people who simply join together once a month and remind everybody that cyclists are stalking the city streets... because they can. Next ride: July 25 z-m |
