I have a pair of NOS rims from the late 80s or early 90s, clincher 36-hole rims made by Campagnolo called "Omega", with "Strada Hardox" in smaller letters. They are a box-profile rim with dark grey anodizing. I want to build them up with some older Campy hubs, but I am having trouble figuring out if they're in spocalc.xls (http://www.damonrinard.com/spocalc.htm). These are the listed Campagnolo rims in spocalc: ERD OSB size ISO 575. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Atlanta '96 576. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Lambda "V" profile 577. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Omega "V" profile 578. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Ypsilon "V" profile 579. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Moskva '80 580. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Montreal '76, new style (beveled semi-aero) 581. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Montreal '76 box style 582. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Omega 19 box style 583. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Tokyo '64 584. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Amber 585. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Gamma box 586. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Helsinki '52 587. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Melbourne '56 588. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Roma '60 589. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Omega 20 box 590. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Topaz 591. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Delta XL, Omega XL, Lambda, Omicron box 592. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Strada 593. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo XL Strada 594. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Ypsilon box 595. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Mexico '68 596. 0.0 700C 622 Campagnolo Munchen '72 Know how it compares to any of the listed rims? I will measure it, just curious about the rims. Can you tell me anything else about them, like reliability, et cetera? Morgan Fletcher Oakland, CA |

I rode Omega Strada Hardox rims for years - but I had a semi-aero tubulars. They were bullet proof. I wrecked 3 times, quite badly, and the wheels never went out of true. They're still in use; I sold the rims with the bike to a guy who still rides them occasionally. I also built up a set of wheels on a set of I believe Omega Hardox box section rims - these were a disappointment. They went out of round almost immediately - well, I did hit a bad RR crossing at full speed, but still.... So, for pure nostalgia and light weight, they're great rims. With 36 spokes, you might get greater durability than I did with 32 spokes. -Dondo |
