A while ago I posted a query into mounting a frame pump under the top tube of my Bob Jackson Touring frame that had no pump peg. I got some useful suggestions. Being the tinkerer that I am, and with a lot of time on my hands while I nurse an injury, I decided to try something different that is based on what seems to be a British Audax tradition of mounting the pump along the left seat stay. Here's what I did: I got two large metric grease fittings and epoxied them onto 5mm threaded studs that I made by cutting the head off a bolt. Then I screwed one of these things into both the fender/rack dropout eyelet and the top rack eyelet on the left seat stay so that the nipples of the grease fittings faced each other. Voila! An old Zefel mountain bike pump fits in there perfectly and securely. I bet that I'm not the only one that has done this. Gary Jacobson Rosendale, NY |
