Default Paint for frame clear coat?

Hello, What type of paint should I use for a frame's clear coat. I tried using some "enamel" stuff
which was a *real* mess.

TIA,

If you don't know what the original paint is you must use enamel. Lacquer may lift the base paint.
And you've got to spray multiple very light coats. I suspect you tried to put one heavy coat on.

The base paint was powder coated by a third party. I guess I could email them to find out
what it was.

Thanks for your help,
