If you have Outlook Express, like I do, you can use it.

Setting it up for newsgroups is quite easy.

Doh! Gotta get off this bandwagon. If the weather would stop being so nice, and I'd stop getting so
much work, maybe I could spend some time repairing my linux boxen.

>000008 173 Opera7.02/Win32 M2 build 2668

Sorry, that one's my fault. I switched to Agent, but really, I promise I'll do better!

>Hmmmm... Pan... that's one i've not tried... -[root]-# apt-get install pan

Silly. That's not how it's done! [user]-$ wget
http://pan.rebelbase.com/download/re...-0.14.2.tar.gz

[user]-$ tar xvzf pan-0.14.2.tar.gz [user]-$ cd pan-0.14.2.tar.gz [user]-$ ./configure && make
[user]-$ sudo make install

I even fooled myself for a moment; as I was typing that, I hit the enter key and wondered why I
wasn't getting a prompt...

Pan is not bad at all. It has better bozo filtering than most, and seems to work without trouble.

Bizarre. "xnews" is a Windows newsreader.

Well, that of course depends on the platform in question. You can see an excellent selection of
available newsreaders for most major platforms at www.newsreaders.com

H'mmmm... I hope you did a

[user]-$ make -n install

before you did

[user]-$ sudo make install

Peronally I think sudo is the work of satan, and always have it disabled. If you're going to do
something as root, you ought to have to type the root password just to remind yourself it's
dangerous.

Planting sombreros is not my thing, but I use Forte Agent - a GREAT newsreader program! Free
yourself from that hacker's delight "Outlook Express" and go to www.forteinc.com!

No, you just need to have the gnome libraries on the system.

and getting nailed by every OE virus/worm in creation is also then easy. (-:

I recommend Agent, or Free Agent if you want a free one. agent will do email too,and is not open
to viruses.

apart from the vuris vulnerabilities of OE, my biggest complaint against it is that it autoharvest
email addresses. as soon as you reply to a message, it puts the address in the address book. THis
addressbook is then used by the viruses. If not so many addresses were in the addressbook, the
viruses would have fewer places to go.
