Out for an evening run the night before last, about half way through my workout it starts to rain a good bit. Not long after the rain starts I start seeing scads of little jumpy critters all over the trail. Smaller than a dime, they don't seem skittish enough for cricketts and in fact make no effort to flee at all! After about 20 yards of this crickett crunching I stop and stoop to investigate these stange bugs. OOPS them ain't cricketts thems lil' baby toads!!! I don't know why I feel compelled to share this bit of mayhem perhaps a little soul cleansing? Interesting is the fact that it did'nt bother me very much thinking that they were bugs but toads on the other hand ahve more worthwhile lives. Thanks Don |

Sure, use that "toads have more worthwhile lives than crickets" theory to make yourself feel better, but don't use it if you're comparing toads to runners. The toads win. |

And what, pray, brings you to this conclusion? I suppose they're nearer to us in the evolutionary scheme of things, but I think it's rather icky that you'd squish either species. BTW, I liked the soul/sole pun. |

On my nightly paper runs as of late I've noticed little toads hopping around the street. I originally thought they were moths and it didn't bother me, but knowing I'm crushing and smashing cute lil toadies is gross. Actually I don't mind the ones I squish, I just hate seeing them leap into the air in front of my cars bumper that's coming at them at 45mph, because you hear this little "THUD" and you just know, that's GOTTA hurt... irunzalot2@aol.com (Irunzalot2) wrote in message news:<20040708073527.19398.00001106@mb- m17.aol.com>... > Out for an evening run the night before last, about half > way through my workout it starts to rain a good bit. I actually meant to end with a question mark because I am not sure (of course) if they do in fact have more worthwhile lives. And how can I justify any such conclusion. In any case I did at that time spontaneously differentiate. |
