Most running shoes I see today are marketed as ~either~ a cushioning or a motion control shoe. Are there any shoes that are both? Or is there a reason why they can't be? |

You imbecile. Buy virtue of the fact that stability shoes must limit or restrict the range of movement of the foot, they should only have a limited ability to cushion impact. Too much cushioning would afford the foot the opportunity to deviate from it's desired path, thus negating the benefits of the motion control aspects of the shoe. Those of you with long memories may recall the first Nike 'Equator', back in about '81. This was a rock-solid but outstanding motion control shoe that worked for many over-pronators of my acquaintance. Sadly, Nike decided the whines from those wanting a cushioned motion-control shoe were too loud, and discontinued this excellent product. We now have a market that desires both in one shoe, clearly a "bridge too far" in current shoe design terms. It's an either/or, not both. |

You're the imbecile. Contact any of the shoe MFG's and ask the same question. All you self appointed experts don't have a clue and you handing out erroneous information. I'm a design engineer for a running shoe MFG. so I think I'm more qualified to answer the question. No! You're the imbecile! (sorry, that bit was to keep Bill happy) I don't care whether you designed the Space Shuttle, as a doctor I can tell you that you CANNOT restrict motion AND retain cushioning in any area of human anatomy by incorporating the 'technology' currently employed in running shoes. Sure, if you set up titanium plates or an external framework to limit the range of motion and employ some form of elastomer to limit shock and you MAY be able to cushion a joint within a defined range of movement, but - and here pray correct me if I'm wrong - I don't see many running shoes employing this technique. You're a arrogant fool attempting to employ an ill-considered engineering solution to a human biomechanical problem. Go away and study human anatomy. Then come back and tell me you can improve on 20,000 years of evolution with a few bits of suede, plastics and blown rubber. "Design engineer" my ass! |

"tg" <none@nomail.com> wrote in message news:vhS5a.222979$Ec4.224352@rwcrnsc52.ops.asp.att.net... Yunno tg, I did a little tracking on you - out of a warped sense of curiosity - and what I found was that you are no more a 'shoe design engineer' than I am the President of Uganda. You're YET ANOTHER member of what would appear to be the fastest growing club on the planet, the rec.running 'Walter Mitty' posters association. Where *do* you guys come from? And *why* do you bother to post? Go away, you're sussed. |
