![]() Beware those who say you only have to average 10 mph to do DALMAC. It can be done, but the 10 mph riders generally need more rest breaks than the faster riders, and have less leeway in their schedules to deal with hills and headwinds. If you're not prepared to cruise at 12-14 mph (flat, no-wind,) you'll likely end up behind the SAG line. The SAG wagons will probably not have enough capacity to carry two trikes at once. I drove SAG in 1999, and had to rescue a couple who was still out on The Bridge at 7:30 PM. They'd done the calculations, but didn't figure for how much the hills would slow them down. (The Bridge is a 2.5 mile uphill.) |

[QUOTE=blazingpedals]I'm doing a bit faster - I averaged 20.5 on day 3 of DALMAC 4DW this year. Today's ride averaged 18.9 for 73 miles, but I can make up an excuse! ![]() QUOTE] Blazingpedals what do you ride and when you figure averaged speed is the time still running at the rest brakes or is that speed average just time you are on the bike? Anybody is welcome to apply, but be forewarned - ridership is very limited and the routes fill quickly, often within 2 or 3 weeks. The 5-day, which has the lowest daily mileage, is always the first route to fill. So you have to be on your toes and be willing to commit in February. |
