^^Appears "Congrats!" are in order for a job well done. You're correct - this thread is about "regrets...post race". Maybe you should start a thread about "successes...post race"? This year, I could add a few entries in the 'successes' column, but it seems the 'regrets' always leave the most lasting impression... |

Shouldn't regret post race, only look forward to what can and will be. Its hard not to though I know, hate starting a sprint too late and knowing I would have won if I went a few seconds earlier!

LOL! Thought I was entering something about a regret - didn't you? 1st win of the season! Took some great info I've learned from my powertap sprint downloads (been jumping in too low a gear and winding it out just before the finish line, and that I could easily start my sprint at least 50m sooner) and put it to great use tonight. Started my jump about 240m from the line and in a higher gear. Had everyone suprised and carried my speed all the way through the line (actually still accelerating according to the PT) for a very convincing and very satisfying win. Had gotten nipped on the line several times this season (by the same guy); actually I'd been starting my jump waaaay too late and didn't have enough real estate to get around him. Not tonight! My "A" crits are this weekend (Sat. & Sun.). I expect more of the same... |

Negative. I want others to take their best shot. No secrets here. As a matter of fact, I told several racers beforehand where I was going to start my sprint and they should be on my wheel. Not cocky - just confident that no one can come around me... |

Not necessarily pouting about any regrets in this post. Had my two "A" crits this past weekend and results were so-so. Got a 3rd place on Saturday in the more prestigous crit (Sidney Grand Prix Cat. 3/4 combined) and a 2nd five (6-10th) finish on Sunday (Oak Bay Cops for Cancer). Did what I set out to do in both races which was to stay near the front to avoid the yo-yo effect. My legs were sore on Friday and Sat. morning, and much more sore for Sunday's race. Obviously my recovery strat for the week prior was not effective. Sprint was decent on Sat. and nonexistent on Sunday (only got up to 53k which is off 9-10k for me on the flat). Below is a sequence from Sat.'s sprint finale. The guy in front in blue won by making a great move on the false flat going into the two corners before the straight stretch to the finish line. I know him pretty well and he yelled at me as he went past, but he was carrying too much speed for me to get on his wheel. It was the kinda move I wish I had in my legs at the time, but didn't. You'll notice in the photos that AGAIN I simply ran out of real estate to get up to second. If I had rested more the previous days, I probably would've came around. Coulda, woulda, shoulda.... Thanks to Duane Martindale for the photos... Last edited by tonyzackery; 07-31.-2009 at 12:32 PM. |

Muchos gracias, Dave. I would relate sprint power numbers but while I narrowly avoided a crash with about 10 laps to go, either one of downed riders or his bike made contact with my rear tire causing it to blow about 10 seconds later. Luckily there was neutral support so I got my PT wheel changed out for a neutral...FYI, taking out the zeros via Power Agent (don't have NP/CyclingPeaks), average power for the 31mins that got recorded was 340w. Normal average power (with zeros) was 280w. It was a pretty hard race as it was a technical course requiring frequent jumps out of the corners to maintain position. |
