Default Newbie here, too light?

Just joined this site, so... Hey everyone!

I'm just getting into the whole road cycling thing... Still going on shorter 50 km rides (sorry to those who do miles, I'm in Europe and am used to kilometers) But I have done a few good climbs , probably about 4 kms of uphill...

This is mainly just an introduction, I hope to asking alot of questions here when I have them. Right now my first question is... is there such a thing as being too light in cycling?

Because I am a 6'1" male that weighs about 128 or so pounds (58.5 kilos) and I know that is way below what the body mass index charts say is normal... but I'm perfectly healthy, love sports, no energy problems... I just have a fast metabolism, lol. It bugs my friends... I have to try real hard to gain instead of lose...

I just got a new (to me, used off of ebay) specialized s-works e5 2006 silver ano bike. I love it, I know I probably don't need it just yet, but it was a great price and I figure I can grow into it instead of buying a bike that is more my level now then going for another one like this one later.

So if you want to skim that all real quick, here you go:
Hi, and am I too light?

Welcome to the forum.

I know the feeling - I had a turbo-charged metabolism until I reached my mid 30s, I could practically eat three times my weight in food and not show any of it. If you have a small frame with lean muscle mass and low body fat, your weight could look a bit on the low side so keep taking in as many 'good' calories as you can so you don't lose any weight from riding. Cycling is mainly an endurance sport as opposed to a 'building' sport so if you don't take in enough calories to offset what you burn during a ride you will get lighter.

Good luck and again welcome to the forum.

As long as you are healthy. Most cyclists would be envious of the weight-to-strength ratio you should be able to achieve.

Depending on other characteristics (can you suffer?) you should be able to become a superb climber!

BTW I'm 5' 4" around same weight as you and consider myself a good climber, but I'm a mesomorph.

Ha ha, yeah, most of my friends that got me into cycling all are very jealous, though the can still drop me anyday just from training...

Yeah, I guess I can suffer to a point, not the greatest at that though, I usually end up slowing way down when it hurts. But I've been told to just gain up mileage for now, get used to it and get the basic strength, then I'm going to go into a real training routine in January. Hopefully it'll pay off, I can't wait.

Ahhh, I mesomorph... of course.... wait what is that? jk, I'll just google it.

Thanks for the answers, I appreciate the help!

Mesomorphs are a type of body structure thats naturally athletic, have broad shoulders and supposed to be the 'perfect' build. Anyway I don't think your too light. Being a light cyclist has huge advantages, just look at the pro cyclists.
