Default Skin burns from beard coloring products

greetings .... I've used a popular consumer product ('Just
For Men') to color the gray out of my beard. In the
beginning, I took the skin sensitivity test and had no
problems. I used the product two or three times ... on the
third time my skin was severely blistered by this product.
Even the slightest amount will make my face look like I
painted it with acid or something.

What is in this stuff that makes it so caustic? Does anyone
have a recommendation for a less-painful method of coloring
gray out of a beard (if important, color is black).

Thanks for your assistance. Bob

You might do better with one of the more gentle, "temp" hair
colors made for women's heads. These are basically dyes that
wash out gradually over time as you shampoo but if you are
just doing beard touchups, they'd probably last awhile
(note: I haven't used one and don't know if you have to mix
the whole contents of the box and use immediately so there's
no way you can store unused product for touchups).

Just For Men is permanent coloring and therefore has harsher
ingredients. Although now that you've developed a
sensitivity, you might react to any dye. That happened to my
mother with permanent wave solution and now there's only one
kind that doesn't cause her a nasty rash and she has to
special order it.

By the way, I hate that commercial. She rejects Mr. Gray
Beard upon the first meeting but proceeds to immediately
neck with Mr. Dark Beard? Yuck.
