Default Fixed/Track commuter Wheels

Right now I have a SS commuter and I am looking to join the fixie market. I have been riding road for about 5 years and can appreciate nice parts. Anyone have any good suggestions for a pair of decent fixed wheels for a commuter bike? I don't want to spend a ton, but I want a pair that is kinda cool. I was thinking something along the sorts of a Velocity Deep-V colored wheelset...let me know your thoughts and opinions.

Any thoughts or stories on brakes or no brakes?

I recently had a set of Mavic Open Sport rims built into my fixie hubs with DT straight g spokes. Anyone who rides fixed will tell you how much punishment goes into the wheels, and so far these wheels are standing up to it well. Cheap, tough and reasonably light for what they are. Deep V's are tough, but are too heavy for mine, especially attached to an old CroMo racer.

Brakes have saved me some skin on many occasions.
