I am fine swimming in an enclosed area, such as a pool, inside of a shallow reef, etc. If I find myself in open water where I can't see the bottom I have panic attacks. It's not exactly something I can just "overcome". I wish it were so, but it's not.

If I do any triathlons at all, it will have to be one where the swim leg takes place in a pool.

One more.

Perhaps this thread should have been a poll so we could have a tally as we go along.

This real chicken is joining the group. Yep, chicken, as in "scared of everything" but I decided to try biking because I want to enjoy our wonderful weather here. I got a Giant Sedona DX Comfort bike and took my first ride yesterday on a nice easy, flat, rails-to-trails gravel path and loved it! It beats my boring treadmill hands-down. It was my 58th birthday and couldn't have been better, a beautiful sunny day with no wind and temps in the low 50s. I only rode 5 miles and had to keep reminding myself to relax and not look at the drop-off on either side of the trail, but I'm definitely hooked!

Hey! I'm another new one...been lurking for about a week. Great forum! A little about myself - 46 years old. Used to ride quite a bit (recreational) with my husband on Omaha on the Keystone Trail...loved it. Rode our Burley tandem and my old reliable Raleigh. Took a break from riding since my husband's death and haven't been riding for a little over five years---ready to get back into it--now living back in southeastern Louisiana!! Just bought myself a Christmas present - Trek 1000C - and waiting patiently for it to come in. If anyone has any suggestions on equipment (helmet, toosh comfort, etc.) my eyes are open!

From my experience riding 2500 to 4000 miles/year, women cyclists are few and far between, maybe at best 10% of total cyclists entering charity or challenging organized rides. BUT, of those 10%, my experience is that most of them are strong, athletes with great legs. Good work ladies! keep hammering!

How do you like biking? Did you get the Trek? I ride a Trek Fuel 90 It's great I've been riding for a while I keep having set backs but I keep getting back on the bike. Hope everything is going well for you

Hobbies apart from cycling - Horse riding, and going to the gym, coaching my boyfriend (athletics) and rnb music.<br /> ;D

Add one more girl to the list. I live in the boondocks and can easily ride from my front door. I love it, but consequently, I don't often participate in organized rides or riding groups.
I love soccer, horses, and tennis.

It must be nice to live where you can bike all year long. I live in Edmonton Canada the winters are long and cold but I got a trainer for Christmas so that will help. I'm forty three been riding for a while and I'm so glad I found this web site it is nice to here about other women bikers. Ride On Treke

Hi. I'm a newbie tri person too-- except, I don't know how to swim! Guess what my NY's resolution will be? There is hope beyond the dog paddle...
I took up running last year and I seem to do well in it. I have 6 years of relatively intense cycling experience, though this past year was almost non-existent for the bike. The challenge I face is convergence. Convergence between the three different disciplines and convergence with my commitments. Should be fun. Remember, in order to get to the summit you gotta take one step at a time. Good luck to everyone!

nice to meet you all. I'm a commuter in Seattle. Very few women ride bikes here. OK very few chicks do anything here except shop so it's a little lonesome!

I'm tall and thin and have trouble finding clothes that fit. The Men's small fits in length but no where else...lots of sewing to customize!

Glad to hear from you. It's pretty cold and windy here in Ohio of late. I'm thinking about a trainer too. What kind did you get? Are you happy with it? Any suggestions?

How do you train on your trainer. How many hours or minutes a day? Can you please give me some advice. Thank you
