A, but they blew me out the back on Beyers Naude. So much so that I couldn't even hold onto the first batch of the B bunch and had to wait for the second bunch of guys.

How about you?
Lab - did you have your name on your number? I was in the front of the B group a lot. I must have seen you when we came past you.

I had a really good ride - started B bunch and got into a nice break group of 30ish and we all worked well together - got to within 30 seconds of the lead A group but couldn't quite close the gap. I finished 5th in the B group in 2:31. I wanted to crack 2:30 (phycological barrier) but I guess you can only go as fast as the bunch (unless you're a superman and I'm not!).

The good news is that I reckon my A seeding is back! Bring on the A start Argus woohoo!!!!!

Plenty 2:30ish times on the forum - excellent stuff!

Another 2:30!
Well done Eldron! Man, what I'd give to ride a 2:30!

I'd like to hear what Dianne has to say. I believe she made it quite a hard day for some of her fellow female contenders.

Well it ended up to be 94.7 km time trial for me >
I had to do the whole race solo, no bunches > Luckily I still managed a 3:08. I'm just glad that I will now have a proper seeding and will start in a decent group next time.

Don't worry goat, a number of us had similar problems (Pity you, me and Mampara started seperately, we were just a couple of groups apart and it would have been nice to work together). Next year should be an easy sub 3hrs for all of us...

So, when do we start the Argus thread? Who's keen on a sub 3hr? Might be a little unrealistic given where I am likely to start but what the hell...

Rhodent, imagine if we could work together, we might have pulled off a sub 3. I looked in the Star this morning and there my time is 3:16:50. But that is probably gross time and not nett. Will wait for fianl results.

When I did the Argus in 1994 (the only Argus I did before I stopped riding) over the old route, I managed 3:17. I loved that ride and stopped almost everywhere. So I'll try a sub 3:30 on the Detour route and a sub 3 if the open the old route again.

A sub 3 on the Detour must be something special. Requires and Average of just over 37 Km/h in the biggest timed event in the world.. Whow, that is a picture worth framing..

I did 4:04. Went OK until crossing the Jukskei then the heat got to me. Yeah, I saw some guys really suffering on that hill at Crowthorne, walking, just standing, and several lying on the ground clutching their legs. :'( And this almost in sight of the finish!
I had my name stapled to my number but didn't see any of you guys. Probably because I was sitting on my number for a couple of hours in a beer tent at the end! ;D Well done to everyone that finished. There are some good times there.
(Went out and did 80km today as self punishment for missing a sub 4. Just as hot as Sunday!;D ;D ;D)

Well done OT! Damn, I haven't touched my bike since the race and you've done another 80k's! I've given myself a 48hr cooldown before I touch the bike again. Are you doing the Argus?

Guys

When I realised I was on the last hill, I was ecstatic! Exhausted, but I felt invincible!

I am not going to disclose my time in public because it was VERY VERY long (and it can not even remotely come close to the guru times I have read about for the past few days :P) I am one of those "plebs" that Rhodent spoke about
and I had the honour of being asked "Keep Left" by Lab-rat (and a "thank you" when I did - it's a pleasure).

But: I started cycling almost a year ago after 30 sedentary years. I could not even make it to the end of my own block without a rest - a reasonable hill. Since then, I have lost 18kg, done 2 x 70km races, and now the 94.7. After years of being a supporter on the side of the roads, I am now in the thick of things.

Argus calls too ... |

Well done to everybody, not only for the good finishing times, but also for just completing the race. I was aiming for anything better than 3:30hrs, and managed 3:14, but only with the help of my hubbie who decided to ride with me. He did a sub 3 last year, and decided that I can do it as well
and nearly killed me in the process. But afterwards I felt grateful, because without his encouragement I don't think I would have even finished before 3:30!

Well done to Dianne (where are you?). We are watching your progress with anticipation. ![]() |

Well Done Roadster,

It's amaizing what we can achieve with a bit of encouragement. Sometimes our minds tell us to slow down, or that this hill is just to steep, but our bodies is much stronger than what we think. Sometimes it takes a good friend, or other half to help us realise that we can achieve more and to give as just that bit more encouragement to push through and not to give up yet.
