Had my first crash today. Stupid really. Some road works and a temporary set of traffic lights. Traffic slowed, I was too slow to realise. Tried to release from my new clipless pedals quickly. Too late. Keeled over in front of a load of cars. Emabarassing. Leg was cut but it was my pride that was hurt. Lost a screw from one of my cleats as well to round it all off!

Not from Ireland, but both sets of grandparents are. One of my fondest memories/cycling memories was visting the Aran Isalnds with my Dad when I was a kid. He went off with the other adults to hit the local pubs I assume, while I and some distant cousins of mine rented some ancient one speed bikes from a cranky old lady who only spoke gaelic. I rode all over the island, ending my trip at Dun Aengus. It was amazing. I have not returned in 12 years. Looking forward to a possible family reunion maybe next year and would like to do some hiking/camping and cycling in the north . Any recommendations.

try northern ireland tourism board .com. i just had a good look at the site an there seems to be plenty on it.
are you staying up north or coming down south too? you may want to check out the ring of kerry if you are, i've done it on a few occasions and love it, especially when the weather is good.
anyway, good luck, and let us know how you get on.

Hi everyone, new to the board. I'm from Dublin, currently bicycle courier and recreational rider. Did the W200 as well a few other people here I see, and also a few other similar events this summer. I ride a Trek 1000 road bike and also an ancient peugot racer which I fixed up for work/bad weather etc.
All the best

btw, has anyone else got their W200 jesries yet? I haven't, not that worried about it though.

Well, stuff i did this summer was the annual cycle of the Ring of Kerry in July, similar distance to w200, but easier climbs. i also did a tour of the Burren organised by Dolmen cc, 138 km and strong riders settinga good pace. This sunday, I'm riding in Baray Wheeler's end of season tour in Wicklow. I think its basically a social even for thier members, but tough climbs and probably good riders. I'll be able to tell this by watching them dissapear into the horizon I'm sure there's plenty more stuff like this in the summer, just about over for now though I reckon. Of course if you get into racing, then there's races almost every weekend in the season.

Try the Orwell Wheelers : they meet in Dundrum every Saturday and Sunday morning.

Call in to Daly's Cycles in the Dundrum Shopping Centre and ask for Dave Tansey - he's the Orwell Wheelers Head Man and he'll give you the times of when they meet.

Howiya Limerickman
I got a jersey last week and its the business...so much better than the other ones!Only thing is,its a xxxl(7)- a 6 would be absolutely spot on.
If I sent it to the Model Shop with a return envelope enclosed, dy think
they'd have a 6 knocking around?
cheers

Got mine, cool jersey!
Limerickman, do you know if the w200 is going to be on the same route again next year?
I dunno if using the N11 in the afternoon is such a good idea, loads of cars and aggressive drivers.

Provisionally, we will be doing the same route start/finish at RTE.
However, we got a lot of complaints about how tough the 2004 was (the Devils Glen came too early for a lot of people).
So there may well be some tinkering with that part of the route.
Will advise when we've agreed it.
