Tis grand indeed. Shortest road stage, 78.4 miles. Longest road stage,
139.4 miles. Average road stage length, 90 miles. Tis a grand little
American stage race sponsored by Bubba's favorite red neck vehicle
manufacturer, Ram Tough Dodge. Tis perfect preparation for that Grand Tour
in July.

I think you're going to see a wing-ding battle for Bald Mountain stage
between Lance and Chris Horner. And I think that Chris will win that
stage.

I think that's a sound prediction. Horner is just SOOO strong. I doubt
Armstrong would be ready even at this date to fight him on those climbs.
Would make for a great race if it happened that way!

I think you're right but there will be a tag-team. Lance will crush
Horner in the tt, Julich will get a close second. Horner and Julich
will make up time by dropping Lance on the way to Brasstown but won't
be able to shake Julich, but will outsprint him for the stage.
Scarponi will be rocking on that stage too. Lance will hold on to
second with his tt cushion but will lose the race to Julich.

Errr, Jim, you have to see Horner riding to believe him. He is superhuman
these days. He's not one but TWO steps above the rest of the competition.
Even a motivated Lance ain't going to be able to hold Chris on any stage he
wants to win. Last year at the SF GP Horner blew EVERYONE'S doors right off.
And Saturday he just pulled away from everyone else so easily that it was
pitiful.

The SF Grand Prix was at a time when most of Horner's potential rivals
were well passed their peak for the season.

If he is two steps above the competition right now, why isn't he going
for the TDF?

Maybe you should tell that to those other guys.

Good question. I don't think that Horner fit in well in his races over
there. He must have a pretty substantial ego and being made a domestique and
pack filler sure didn't set all that well with him. And he's gotten LOTS
better since then as well.

TDG is going to be a different story.

Or not. I'm of the opinion that Horner has reached the ultimate state now.
I'd say there aren't a dozen racers in the world that could stay with him in
his kind of race.

To reiterate - I'm betting he and Lance get into it on Bald Mountain and
that Horner wins.

Errr, So am I. But I think Julich is a bit stronger than Horner in
the tt, and I think Julich and Horner will be sharper than Lance on
the climb. Lance will get dropped, "sit up" and say he's on a rest
week, or, if he isn't confident, he'll make up his mind before the
final climb and play the "good team-mate card" and ride for the next
best Postal guy.

Hi, If you go to www.tourdegeorgia.org and click on communities and
events and then select a specific community name, you'll get info on
road closings, etc. Some seem to be more complete than others. There is
other info on the tour de georgia site that you might find useful. Hope
this helps.
