I think that MS will end next Tour in GC top 10 and will also take the
white jersey for the best youngster.

I never believe anyone when they say they haven't slept for days.
Anyone try not sleeping for two nights and two days? You'd
be a total wreck.

That could have been me as well. I had several Peugeots and with the
standard fork they were absolutely horrible down hills.

I don't think that Mario is washed up physically. I think that he has enough
money and enough fame and simply doesn't have the motivation to train hard
enough to be competitive.

What gave him the motivation in 2002 ?

A World Championship road course that suited him perfectly.

Damned if I know but if he had another year like that he would be tricking
Petacchi instead of the other way around.

While that's true, he was on fire from the start of the year. He very
obviously had trained studiously and had his weight down to probably his
lowest since he was in his 20's. He was showing power everywhere and could
power climb in Belgian on the bergs without making faces.

He could be that fast or faster again with enough motivation but you know,
been there and done that and all. I think that he'll just retire rather than
re-learn to suffer.

He didn't see Petacchi in his rear view mirror.

Going back a few years I see Petacchi winning stages here and there,
honing his skills then *BAM!* 2003 and Mario found a true rival in the
autumn of his career.
