While that's true, he was on fire from the start of the year. He very obviously had trained studiously and had his weight down to probably his lowest since he was in his 20's. He was showing power everywhere and could power climb in Belgian on the bergs without making faces. He could be that fast or faster again with enough motivation but you know, been there and done that and all. I think that he'll just retire rather than re-learn to suffer. |

He didn't see Petacchi in his rear view mirror. Going back a few years I see Petacchi winning stages here and there, honing his skills then *BAM!* 2003 and Mario found a true rival in the autumn of his career. |
