This thread is so funny.

I think this thread is the perfect summary of what is wrong with America at the moment. It isn't the guns - they are everywhere all over the world. It's the people that think carrying a gun makes them safe.

I can picture a scenario unfolding for some of these guys... Car beeps the horn as it passes a cyclist - motorist stops to ask directions - cyclist mistakes these actions as acts of agression - instead of waiting to see what the motorist wants and filled with paranoia, the cyclist shots the motorist dead - goes to jail and never rides a bike again.

Same scenario where I live - motorist gets out and asks for directions - I help out and we both live happily ever after.

I grew up around guns and I have trained extensively for many years in how to protect myself and others for a living. I would never even dream of carrying a gun when I go for a ride.

I'm prepared to go on the record and call everyone's bluff. I think there isn't an actual person (even in the states) that rides around with a gun. Isn't it illegal to carry a conceled weapon in most 1st world country's.

Couldn't agree more.

Thank you for being a voice of reason.

Hey now!

(I only let my wife fondle my weapon)

By the way... how's this for cool?

I reload (make my own rounds) at home using a Dillon Press... this past monday, the Aesthetician at my medical clinic and I went to a photo shoot (my Aesthetician is a model also) at Dillon and she's going to be on the cover of their "Blue Press" magazine... with a 1930s Thompson machine gun.

For you reloaders out there... keep an eye out for Dillon's magazine in the next couple of months.

Oh.. by the way... I carry in my medical clinic and I allow my employees to carry if they have a CCW permit.

You would be wrong.

I do carry while I ride... usually a small .380 IWB but sometimes I'll carry a 1911 .45 ACP in my Pannier.

It is legal to carry concealed in the majority of the states in the US.

However you have to pass a rather rigorous background check and attend a Concealed Carry Weapons course for your state in order to carry legally.

I have always wondered, would it be legal to walk down the street with a registered sidearm in a holster in plain sight? I mean, it's not possessing a concealed weapon, and it is registered. But I'll bet that every law enforcement officer in the area would be stopping me.

Here in Arizona, open carry is legal... anyone who has not had their rights limited due to a crime can carry with no training (you must be over 21 to carry a handgun though).

Here... open carry is common enough that no one cares but MOST people I know rarely carry open unless it is to an event. Carrying open can be intimidating to people who are uncomfortable with firearms... besides; I don't carry because I want people to know how bad-ass I am... I carry because I want to stop potential threats to my life or my family's lives.

Open carry is legal in Ohio. The right of self protection is not only cited in our federal constitution, it is also guaranteed in our state constitution.

I mean, it's not possessing a concealed weapon, and it is registered.

There is no such thing as firearm 'registration' for simple ownership. If you are not a convicted felon, you can legally open carry a title I firearm.

But I'll bet that every law enforcement officer in the area would be stopping me.

That would depend on where one lives. I'm lucky. I live among folks with functioning brains and common sense. Unlike menstruating women, they do not rely on their emotions, but rather they go thru life making decisions based on rational thoughts. Yesterday morning I was out repairing fenceline along the road. Lots of folks drove by and a neighbor stopped to shoot the breeze. I had a semi-auto pistol in a thigh-rig strapped on my side.

No one freaked out. No swatzis stoppped to raid the house. No helicopters hovered overhead.

I'm blessed to live where men are still men, and not a bunch of nancy-boy limp-wristed waste of oxygen liberal pukes.

Unless you live close to the deamoncratic shiitehole that is Cinci, I'm guessing most Sheriffs in SW Ohio would sign off on a form IV to allow you to possess machineguns and suppressors.

I live in the next county from Cincy, still too close for comfort. Sheriff Jones here in Butler County probably wouldn't have a problem with me carrying as he is busy rounding up illegal aliens, thus reducing one of the major sources of our violent society. It is the local yokels that would have a problem with it. They all act like menstrating women, and much of the local populace would be having fits over it too.

Our locals have side arms, scatterguns, patrol rifles (AR15 or M16) and some carry H&K MP5's.

The Canton Park Patrol Police are mounted on Treks and carry only a side arm...must be weight weenies! By day those parks are barely safe enough to cycle thru, what with avoiding all the staggering drunkards, oblivious drugaholics and the pimps & ho's. At night, you'ld best be doing your best heads-up sprint thru that insanity.

Are you near the Claymont/Northmont area? I have a brother that teaches/coaches there. It's a beautiful area for cycling!

Was your "gun" lubed when you and your neighbour 'shot the breeze'?
Was the breeze threatening you? Threatening to ruffle your perm?

I carry a set of keys and a mobile phone. And I bet they have protected my life as well as your gun has protected yours. I'm considered pretty bad arse where i live.

"One of Britain's leading trauma surgeons has told how one in three of his trauma patients is now a stabbing victim. Karim Brohi, a consultant surgeon at the Royal London Hospital, said the proportion of injuries from knives and guns was now on a level with - if not greater than - cities such as Los Angeles or Chicago."

Stabbed but not shot - that's socially acceptable, eh?

I'm a bicycle maintenance tutor. I keep a MkIV Lun@ic pump-action gun in my workshop, and I advice all my pupils to do the same, because you never know when you might need to use it.
I would not take my gun on tour, but nothing beats it for pumping those dirty bearings full of grease.

Gun don't make you safe, but once attacked by those intending lethal/great- bodily harm , they reduce the odds of the victim being injured by the attacker. In particular, it has been demonstrated that potential rape victims that resist with a gun are injured less than those who resist without a gun or who don't resist. The same for robbery.

It's the people that walk alone down dark streets in the big city that think their cells phone is a talisman warding off evil that have wrong ideas.

Funny thing about the anti-gun organizations - they make up scenarios about how everyplace will become the Wild West if more people are allowed to own/carry guns. And then, when the laws are changed to allow guns to be owned/carried, and their predictions don't come true, they move on to the next town/state and raise the same outcry. If their dire predictions only came true once, maybe somebody would listen. But they don't and nobody does. Gun ownership and concealed carry has increased in the US while homicides have declined. Go figure ...
