hi there, just been out today, and its blowing a gale, we are having a great time just standing up, never mind riding bike ladd, but be as it may, still got out with the local racing club,(not my usuall club) we were expecting the local pro thors hushvolt (credit ag) who live just down the road to join us, but he is having a nose job done, so it was left to the boy racers.. what a load of crap, we pissed about waiting for a guy who had punctured, then waited for a guy who just got off for a piss, we then had to bugger about waiting for prima donners on 5000 euro carbon bikes, shit it was like a fun run from bradford to bingley and back, and these blokes are supposed to be racers, anyway i got pissed off and got to the front and stuck it on them, we got back to boulou with me and this other guy, he said to me"how old are you", i told him old enough to be his dad, i then just pissed of home... bon courage..

sounds like you had a great time. I went out today with my club, it was a pace of about 17-20mph over 40 miles, i found it really hard as i got to bed at 2 in the morning and had to be up at 7 to get to my club....it also didnt help the steepest hill in my county (essex) was included in the ride

Now ive learnt that doing hard rides with no sleep is hard.....haha

good on yer mate, my son lives in essex, don't know of any major climbs, are there any?, but you DID get out, my ride due to the wind went up the valley between the pyrenees on the left and the massif de canigou on the right, we did one stiff col, only about 4 kms long, but with a bit in the middle of about 1in 8. there were 4 of us left at the top, i was pissed off because after a climb its a shit defying decent to the bottom, i like to go down without braking, stupid at 59 i know but, then its a big game to me.. only did about 80 kms but with 240 in during the week i hit my target of 300 kms, next week, well theres...........bon courage,

Yeah, I didnt find it easy at all though......haha it was still fun to go out, ive bin out on my bike with my club all weekend!

yes its great to get out on yer bike, i started in bradford up north in 1956, first club 1957 first race 1958 been racing ever since, from schoolboy/pro/old man, in 48 years.. still at it. its great just to get out, when you are my age, its like a new day every time you get on your carbon fibre rottwieller, great. enjoy it and most of all keep going,, do not let anyone stop you,,, you will regret it if you do,, i didnt (had a understanding wife, lucky).. its the best sort in the world, we even have a guy out here who is 79 and still gets round in the vets bunch.me its LIFE MAN bon courage.

Had a very enjoyable experience this morning whilst going shopping.

Got caught behind a club run, (I was the passenger so could drool legally, & it was a good job my kids weren't there.) about 20 or so doing very nicely through the village on some rather flash bikes, a nice Bianchi and a beaut of a Cannondale were present, didn't notice any more the lycra was more interesting.

What I'd like to know is do they always ride all over the road, not allowing you to pass them seeming to have fun with the car drivers. or is it a male thing.

Someone please enlighten me, even though I enjoyed the mile or so following them.

sorry i think it is a bit of UP YOURS, bike riders tend to feel they have a right to on the road, i think that if there is a car behind trying to get passed, the riders have a bit of well lets say,i am in front now maty ,get passed if you can,, the cars always do .its strange .this week i had a car follow me for about 1 kms, and it did not pass, when it did on a safe stretch of road the driver gave me a wave and a nod, as i entered the next village, the car was parked at the side of the road outside the butchers shop, as i was just about to pass it, the driver opened his door causing me to take evasive action to stop falling off,i looked at him through my JU addidas glasses and he was laughing at me, i wonder wether he knew that by riding behind me slowly he would GET me in the village.. nearly did.. bon courage.

With the volume of traffic these days - they should abide by the rules of the road ie. two cyclists abreast.
Don't wanna be a killjoy but given traffic volumes and the increase in road rage, idiots out on bikes fucking around on the street, just isn't on (even on a Sunday morning).

hi there, i saw in another liens that you had to book with tour operators to get into the etape, send £100 non refundable, then before 17th of november another £100 NR then the rest up to £400 a month before the event.. i think once again old J M Bonkers has hit it on the head, keep out the etrangers,except the rich ones/// its criminal to me that the restrictions are so tight, it will be an event for the RICH only, what about the guys who take thier holidays in france at the time to watch the tour and take in the etape.. if there are any guys out there who want to DO the etape, let me do it from france, all i would want is a few bob to cover my costs, ie postage / .printing ect... the biggest problem is the medical cert, i would need that here in france by the end of january.... its up to you... bon courage.

I've seen a lot of complaints about how the Etape is being closed out to individual registration from outside of France (www.cyclingnews.com - letters page).
Seems that anyone from outside France has to go through an "agent", to get a place on the Etape.

Hello Phil, Welcome. I'm a bit concerned about something here, and others might might think the same. We know it's the club hacking season which gives a chance to youngsters to develop stamina with their elders as nobody goes stamping on. The main concern is that 40 miles is nothing in the stamina building stakes, for you or the other members to maintain it. I feel that a Sunday run at this time of year should be at least 70-80 miles. 40 miles out, 1 hour lunch, and then back home. It's quite a reasonable ask as you will be swishing along in a bunch, chatting about this and that, and the time like the miles pass quickly. By the way how many seniors are on the runs, and how many juniors?

im the youngest there by two years, theres a 15 year old thats regulalry there then the rest are seniors

Hey, Hey MCM, who are you kidding here. Shopping? Doubt it! You just drove round the Cotswolds until you found a club run, then stayed behind it until you had taken photos of riders "Shakin' that Ass" thus causing a five mile tailback. As for riders being all over the road. Simple answer. Most of them never learn't to ride in club runs.
