FredC, I thought this thread was about favorite beers. Naturally I apologise for my countryman mistakenly calling that XXXXGold softdrink staff a beer. Remember Culloden? Kind regards,

Read #119. tasted good all night it did. What, the Captain of Scotland, and the Captain of England in an all night session, and nobody mentioned the word Football. They were both playing for Manchester United at the time. What did amaze me though was that Martin always referred to Brian as 'Skip', and Bryan always referred to Martin as Martin. As for Culloden, I can't remember much as my parents took me in the pram.

Buchan was a useful player alright. Robson - need we say more, very gritty and tough. Got agree about managers - Scotland does produce 'em. Don't forget George Graham as well. Bloody good manager (and I'm a Spurs man !). For me the only two managers from England who could be in the same company as Shanks, Stein etc are Bob Paisley (the most successful manager of all time) and Cloughie. I would also include "Sir" Bill Nicholson but I'm a biased Spurs man. |

I agree with Bob Paisley being included, but what have you say about this? North London Jews support 'Spurs'.

Not to worry old man. Just don't start supporting Chelsea as Abramovich and his pals are all jewish. Thank the Lords of Eire and Scotland that we all stayed together in Manchester United with no sectarian divides. We were all pulling on the same rope to make a living, and the older I become the more I appreciate the cohesion.

Man Utd have a massive following everywhere, including here. Remember as a kid visiting the in-laws in Bolton and my father bringing us to Maine Road to see Man Utd V Man City. Colin Bell, Franny Lee, Dennis Law, Joe Corrigan : all playing for City. And Stepney, Charlton, Stiles playing for Utd. Fantastic. Yep, we have more that binds us in these islands than separates us. Despite some elements wanting to accentuate the divisions. |

Limerick, You are a handsome devil; Certainly better looking than FredC. While beer and sport are not totally unrelated, some of us here are waiting for the recommendations in that regard. C'mon there must be a good beer to be recommended? Kind regards,

You like the photo so ? Not me, I'm afraid - it's a character from a TV prog called "The Fast Show". The bloke is called Bob Fleming and he does this country program but he is forever coughing (as in the picture), hacking up phlegm, or sneezing. He can never get out his lines cause he's coughing, sneezing etc. He's a classic comedy character. I have to say after a tough spin though, I do adopt the Bob Fleming pose, coughing and spluttering ! beer and sport, beer and sport. How about Moosehead Larger from the USA ? have you tried that ? |

AND it's from the oldest brewery in the world, or so they claim at least. Been there myself, just north of Munchen. Good stuff. But, my favorite of all time has to be Kreuzberg from Germany. Small operation from an old monastary (bad spelling I think) on top of a big hill. Pretty place, and a brutal climb to get there too. Lots of cyclists on a nice day up there gasping for breath and swilling beers to celebrate the misery. Incredible brew! Just north of Schweinfurt in Bavaria if you want a good cycling/drinking experience. |
