As I have just aquired another track bike for te princly sum of $150, I am going to join Randwick-Botany so that I can do some training on the velodrome at Tempe.
The warm up session is behind a durney and I used to keep up to about the 40kmh OK but the top riders are managing 55+.

Meek one, what size wheels are you using for the 48/16?

Cheers

I am using 700x23 Conti Ultra Gatorskins.

What's a durney? Even www.dictionary.com (American english) didn't know. Is that the name for the guy on the motorized bike or motorcycle pacing the field like in a keirin?

I wish I could get to the track more. For outdoor tracks I like to do the pacelines in a 48x15 or 49x15 so I can work on high rpm endurance. If I was in better shape the 48x16 might even work. Currently during sprint training I can hit a two-way top speed of roughly 57km/h in the 48/16 (150 or so rpm). My brother came over a couple of months ago and humbled me and hit around 62km/h.

42/16 with 165mm cranks and 700x25 tires seems to work well for me here in hilly SF. I have a 18T freewheel on the other side of my flipflop hub but don't like it.
