Bizarre one this. I found that people gave me much more room when
riding a trike. Odd given that the trike is considerably more stable!

I think just about everyone finds this.

The first thing that people almost(1) invariably say to a trike-owner is
"That looks terribly dangerous."

It's not too big a step to assume that the first thing drivers think when
they see a trike is "That looks terribly dangerous." - followed by the
conscious or unconscious making of allowances - c.f. also David
Martin(ofthisparish)'s Theory Of BIG. Since trikes are actually safer,
we have our cake and eat it!


(1) Slightly Surreal Name-drop: the *only* person IME who on seeing a
trike for the first time has ever said straight away "So that's safer
than a normal bike, then." was Isla St Clair. Sensible woman.

And she is a relative of mine - I kid you not ;-) Second cousin or something
like that. We've never met, but when I was a kid, whenever I went up to my
Scottish great aunt's for a holiday, I was *encouraged* to listen to Isla's
folk records. It was pointed out to me (repeatedly) that in the family she did
the Scottish singing & I did the Scottish dancing.

Noooo! Steam them gently until they think about being a bit soft. That's
long enough (unless you got the monster sized ones which never cook right.)

Boiling non-root vegetables should be banned..

Wise words. I suspect the reason so many people claim to hate sprouts is
that they've always been given the boiled-to-death version. A properly
cooked sprout is delicious.
