Are they the ones w/ the integrated brake lever? I've heard hot and cold about those. The only bad I've heard it is easy to accidentally shift on rough stuff.

I've shifted accidentally when going down on rough stuff as you said, but not always. Beside that they work great, I like them. YOu can shift while breaking, I don't use to that to often but you can.
BTW the one that "self shifted" is the left one it changed from bit chainring to the middle one, seems like for shifting from big to small chainrings is to sensitive.

I prefer the Shimano stuff personally. Have never tried SRAM rocket shifters or any of their trigger style shifters. I absolutely HATED gripshift, just didn't get along with it.

Have a strange setup at the mo of STX-RC rapid fire shifters, XT FD and Tiagra RD. I broke my old alivio RD and had a Tiagra sitting in a box so I threw it on about a year ago and had no problems with it and basically forgot about it. The shifting on the front became a lot sloppier when I switched from a shimano chain to an SRAM one. Will probably switch back to shimano eventually.

Ultimately it is all about what works best for you and your particular setup. Shimano works for me so I see no reason to change.

I used to love my SRAM but, when they break getting parts can be tough. I was thinking of switching back to Shim for that reason alone.

You can shift while breaking with triggers AND Gripsshifters. It doesn't matter. It just takes a little extra dexterity.

I had a set of rocket halpipes that replaced some dead LX's. While I really appreciated the mindreading shifting, and it wasnt horrible for accidental shifts(your whole hand is on the shifter always) it didnt feel as sold as triggers. That being said I bet a set of the newer NON halfpipe deals would be great. So when my current deore's die, and likely they shall, I will likely go with a whole sram set up, their RD's look so cool, and look easy to clean all open too. spin shift is great for always being in the gear you want, when you want it

Been using a mix of Sram and Shimano XTR for years. Both decided to wear out recently. Now I am using a mix of Sram triggers and Shimano XT. Still getting used to the "Rapid Rise" shifting from the Shimano rear derailleur. Both work very well and I think it is a personal preference vs. an actual performance issue between the two. Once both are dialed in, Sram and Shimano shift and perform equally as well. Good luck with your choice.

Anybody here with any experience or knowledge about SRAM and how it compares to shimano (XT)?????

Five years ago, I ran a combo Shimano XT-XTR on my Litespeed Pisgah. Today, I have SRAM Attack twist-shifters, a SRAM 3.0 front derailleur and SRAM 5.0 rear derailleur on my Cycle Genius STX recumbent. The verdict: I love the performance of these mid-level SRAM components on my 'bent, even better than the XT-XTR on my Litespeed! The higher end SRAM parts have got to be at the very least the equal of XT or XTR!!!

sorry for the noob question, but what is the difference between "long cage" and "medium cage"? is one just rapid rise, and the other not? i'm leaning toward the sram X0 to replace the shimano lx i have and was also wondering if i'm going to run into any problems if i don't replace the shifter with sram hardware as well.

thanks.

As of today on my CG STX, I've replaced the SRAM Attack twisters with the SRAM 4.0 Pro half-pipe twisters and the rear derailleur to a SRAM X-7 all-black unit! Sooooo hoppy!!!!
