I am a 39 year old currently stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. I am an enlisted man in the US Navy. I do chemistry and radiological controls work in nuclear power plants.

I have been cycling to work for the last two years, and I currently ride about 100 miles a week. I am training for my first century in August.

I'm in Boulder, Colorado USA. I am a student at the University of Colorado studying electrical engineering, and creative writing. I play hockey and have started cycling to replace running which was getting hard on my injured (from the hockey) knees. I am just getting back into shape and looking forward to doing some serious climbs.

I'm a professional musician......specializing in piano, organ, harpsichord and choral conducting. Most of my work is in Church music. Also teach piano and organ privately.

Cycling is new to me, but I'm doing 10 miles a day and looking towards a 150 mile ride in October.

Hello:

I live in Toronto, Canada. Where I have to put my bike away every winter and travel by dogsled.

Ride at least 2-3 hours per day. This is great, considering that I haven't been on bike for 5 years. Sucks because before I blew my knees. Was training at 5-6 hours a day at Cat 2 racing

Work for a computer like company in shipping. Nt the gratest job, but pays well with benefits........

Memph

p.s. if any other Toronto roadies on here, drop me a line..

I live in the Philippines where the weather is hot and very humid. Lots of unpaved roads and good island spots for mountain biking.

I manage an IT dept. in KS-12 school and make trail maps during my weekends.

Lots of cycling groups here but only a few are into documenting trails and setting-up bike friendly tours and travel. Any of you interested in this kind of opportunity, give me a call.

Well, cycling really got a grip of me. Try to achieve as much during the week, that is doing 1-2 hour stints per day and a very tough 100- 150 on weekends. I am Gauteng South Africa living on the East Rand

Hi wamara,

As you well know, it does rain in Vancouver but surprise, surprise we had a very dry winter and spring. I have logged over 4500 km since January and most of it has been relatively dry at least when I started out. I live in Kerrisdale so I go for a 2 hour ride in the morning before work. I have a route around UBC via Marine Drive and along Spanish Banks and Locarno Beach, then its up 8th Ave and out to 16th and Blanca and around UBC again. I get a great workout but there are starting to be signs that all may not be the same after construction of the new winter sports complex starts. Already I hate these big tandem dump trucks and I had numerous flats in January and February because the street wasn't cleaned of glass and debris.
On weekends I like to ride out to Whytecliff Park at Horseshoe Bay via Marine Drive and sometimes its up to Cypress Bowl if I feel energetic. You are right about the traffic being bad but early in the morning is better. Vancouver is still nice to call home but it has changed a lot in the last 20 years. I don't go downtown much and the drug problem is pretty bad. Lots of property crime to support the crack heads. I don't know what they are going to do about that before the Olympics... maybe put them all on Lasqueti Island. When I am on my Sunday morning ride I don't think of these things.

Hello Jan:

I do was from British Columbia, expect that I lived in the Kootenays. Where the beer is fresh and the moutains are HUGE. I know what you mean about being able to cycle all year round. When I was out there. I rode 635 straight days outside.

Do you still have the gas tax for the Olypics?
You think the crime in Van is bad? Try living in Toronto? Your Surrey, is our Scarborough....

I'm just new to the forum and have already learned a lot in the quest for selecting my next bike...thanks!

I'm a professional musician in the Army Band Melbourne (bass trombone, for those who are wondering). I've only been in for a few months and am now getting back on the bike after a bit of a spell during uni. Am now commuting about 25km per day on my poor old Shogun road bike, but I'm loving it!

I currently have three short-term goals: 1. Ride the "Around the Bay in a Day", 2. Ride to Ballarat or Central Gippsland and 3. enter my first Triathlon or road race this summer. Only problem is, I don't know much at all about road racing - how to get started, whether there are super-novice level, etc. Can anyone give me a few pointers?

P.s. It's good to see the Victorians are out in force!

Hello, I'm 34 and I'm from Whidbey Island (Washington state USA) and I'm just getting started biking again. I don't plan to do any racing, just to get in shapea again since I'm a computer programmer and sit in front of the computer 8-10 hrs a day. I'm beginning to hate it.
Don't laugh: My longest ride since I took my bike out of storage a month ago was 7.5 miles with my 2 year old daughter (have a child seat on the bike). I ride a piece of junk for Walmart (NEXT mountainbike feels like it's built out of lead) I just put some hybrid tires on it and it helps a lot. One of these days I'll be able to afford a nice hybrid bike, until then I'll have to survive with this one. We have beautiful places to ride with little traffic.

Hi,

Got any group rides in your area? I'm into mountaing biking and in search for off-road trails close to our area. I ride from my home in Pasig to Makati.

I', no in market research, this has got to be the most boring job in the world. I plan on becoming a pro racer.....but I think that is one plan that will not push through!

Hello all--
I'm a recent college grad from the Midwest, USA. Still trying to figure out what I want to do with my degree. Haven't seen to many people on the board from this area. I don't ride yet, don't even have a bike, but I'm learning a ton for when I purchase my first (hopefully soon!!). Thanks to all for the great info!
