Thanks so much, Ed.

No need to sharpen the pencils, though -- mine's been pretty dull for quite some time. I'm just here to read (which I've been doing for a while).
I'd bring my friends along, but they're not into to cycling. They do have a thing or two to say about censorship, though...

So, JJ, tell me, are they taking odds on Pedal Forum on whether or not I will get the CCA Marketing job? Maybe I should hedge my bet and make myself a little cash by betting against myself just in case.

What was the big problem over there, hackers? Almost two weesk to fix it, boy, that's more than a glitch. What did they do, anything really funny? Who was it, Hansen?

Damn hackers didn't even have the courtesy to delete my alcohol-inspired late night rants. Bastards.
When I get my booze inventory built up, I will be on here with some late night alcohol induced rants, so do not worry. It is just like waking up next to a fat chick, "oooh god, what did I post".

Ed,
Actually, there hasn't been much talk about anything. Total number of posts since the forum's re-birth: zero. Seems everyone is too busy at CC calling one another jitbags to notice that Pedal is back on-line.

Prior to the meltdown, there wasn't really any talk about you, except for a thread someone started to have you reinstated. If memory serves, it stretched to two pages and was filled with the usual bluster. Suffice to say, I don't think Van de Wille (sp?) will be campaigning on your behalf. I do wish you the best of luck, though, for whatever that is worth.

I have no information about what caused the shutdown. I swear.

P.S.
Billy: I like the drunken post analogy. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one whose first waking thought has been wtf?

I am a bit curious Eddie. Did you contact them? Call them on it?

I read your Arzouian Cup posts on the CC forum. That is a good stuff. The Crit Champs should thank you for the title, otherwise, all they could thank for is a gift certificate to a local restaurant.

Sure, I contacted Benjy. I complained that some anonymous asshole was posting outright lies about me and wanted it stopped. So Benjy banned me.

Benjy and I go back a long way.

I used to write for Pedal before Sadavoy owned it ('88 or so). Jim Couper was the first owner, if memory serves.

Benjy used to publish an ad rag called Buy & Sell or something like that. His only connection to cycling before Pedal was printing something related to the trade show in Toronto. He knew nothing of the sport then his know no much more now.

Just before he bought Pedal he called to tell me he was going to do so and wanted my assistance with writing, since he knew nothing of cycling.

I wrote fro him for quite a while until the '96 or so when I got fed up.

He never paid much. It was only worth writing for the publication while I owned the Evian Team or if I attended an event for another reason. I was writng for The Gazette and getting paid by them. I sent Benjy the same stuff and he published it about two months later. Anything I made with Pedal was all gravy on top of what I made at The Gazette which even that was a big help in promoting the sport and therefore my own team.

I cannot imagine anybody travelling to an event for just what Pedal pays. I wonder who paid Van de Wille's expense to get out East or to BC, I can't imagine Pedal covering airfare.

I got fed up with Benjy when he sided with Laura Robinson and assisted her in her equal prize money campaign which KILLED cycling in Toronto and then Ontario in general.

Make no mistake about it, Sadavoy's backing of Robinson was instrumental in killing big-time road racing in downtown Toronto.

So, to get back to the original question. I do not need to contact Benjy about this forum. I proved to him for a Month in 2004 that if I didn't post nobody else did.

His forum will die.

I will send him a condolence card.

If I become Director of Marketing Operations at the CCA I will immediately look to launch a CCA Forum where OFFICIAL answers can be given to public questions so all these rumours and the confusion generated on Pedal and CC does not happen.

Even if I do not become Marketing Ops director I will push for such a forum to increase transparency, accountability and to gauge public opinion BEFORE implementing policy (unlike what the CCA has doen in the past, where they enact something without any clue of how the racing public in general feels about it).

I thought you would find this interesting Eddie. From CC forum today. Lets see how many threads are ticked over in a month.

We have decided to make registration a requirement to post to the Forums. Everyone will still be able to read all discussions, but to contribute you must register and log in. You may choose your own user name and password (assuming that it is already not taken). As has been pointed out, this is one of the few remaining discussion forums anywhere that allowed fully anonymous posting. In the interests of promoting more relevant discussions we have decided to take the step of requiring registration.

Default Re: Pedal Magazine Forum, & CC for that matter

I thought I would qoute this post next to my latest post for reader reference.

I remember a thread on CC about a couple of months ago about "Log-on" only. The editors said they tried before, but did not work. Seems a bit coincidental that Pedalmag is now a rudderless sinking ship and the forum participants here have discussed the lack of protection on those particular forums. Eh?

I agree with what you are saying. It is far better for user to have to log on. Of course, that doesn't really provide much in terms of who they are does it?

It is not much more difficult to ban an IP address (which is what CC and Pedal have done to all mine, including the entire Valleyfield, QC and St. anicet, QC public library systems) than it is to block or censor a username.

We do not know who the users are. It isn't like a username name such as PeeinginNepean, who admits to coming on these forums just to personally harass me, is anybody we could name.

To be quite frank, I do not like the CC & PM forums. They are set up to allow posters to be abused. At least here someone can do something about it.

Obviously Ed and Patrick do not get along, but at least they know who is throwing the punches.

DEFINITION: Phishing is a technique used to gain personal information for purposes of identity theft, using fraudulent e-mail messages that appear to come from legitimate businesses. These authentic-looking messages are designed to fool recipients into divulging personal data such as account numbers and passwords, credit card numbers and Social Security numbers.

Thanks JD. One day, I never heard of it, the next, it is all I hear about. Last time I saw "fish" spelled "phish" it was on a vinyl cover. Appreciate your post. I read your posts elsewhere by the way. I hope you post here more often. More opinions the better.

Yup, not bad at all.

Forums, like cycling rides, need a critical mass to gain power and stand on their own.

I'll keep sticking to posting here with relevant and meaningful commentary.

Slowly but surely more and more peple will come.

Pedal Forum will die, I was the only things keeping it alive. Silly Benjy.

With more controls CC will die, or certainly slow down as well since most posters there really have nothing to add. The only reason many people to Pedal is to see Rob pictures because it is the only place they might ever see a pictures of themselves riding in a race. It is sad really.

Used to be mainstream newspapers covered the sport. Now people think they are lucky if they see a mention on CC.
