No, the first pursue of Vino was understandable, as Basso followed him. Armstrong showed he did not want to pursue but let them gain 30 seconds him and Ullrich had to follow Basso. Vino said on TV he knows that his role is to attack and to split up Discovery, not to win the tour anymore as he lost so much time and cannot go with Lance, Jan and Basso in the mountains.

I think you guys are being too hard on Jan. He very well could have ridden himself onto the podium in Paris with his effort today. He's 4th GC and we all know Rassmussen isn't going to be able to TT with the big boys. Yeah, he lost 18 seconds, but still had a great ride.

At least T-mobile tried to attack Lance today....

Lonni utah tell me what he goal of T-mobile is and especially of Jan ullrich. With the money the pump in that team he should have delivered a lot earlier...................so it's right we are hard on Ullrich! I wish Godefroot and his teammates were on Ullrich!!!!!!!!

NNB,

To be fair to Jan, I think some of that time was lost when Lance and Basso lifted the tempo to the line in the finishing "sprint"....

If you saw live coverage you'd know that the T-mobile car wasn't allowed to get through to Jan before the last climb, Discovery team car was deliberately staying right up there with the group on the descent. The commentators were even suggesting that Bruyneel should be given a race number. I don't know if that affected Jan, but it could have done.

If I were LA, I wouldn't have gone to the front at all after it were just LA, JU and Basso in the end, after Totschig. That's because LA knows Basso and JU want to gain time on Rassmussen and get onto the podium. Sure, LA wants to distance Rassmussen too, but force Basso and JU to do all the work and then attack them.

I agree. He can grind away but he doesn't have that turn of speed to keep up with Armstrong. He rides in such a big gear it's much harder for him to suddenly pick his pace up.

In the end he only lost something like 15/20 seconds which is pretty much the time Basso and Armstong gained on him when they broke away.

On the same tack; Armstrong took on a bottle on the way up a climb, will he punished? If so, what punishment? A time penalty or a fine?

Funny, on the second to last climb he had a 'turn of speed' when he was pulling away from Lance. Don't discredit him for not having the 'turn of speed' that you suggest. What affected him in the final 500m was that he hit the wall, his glycogen supplies were depleted. He was clearly very strong today.

Not sure what you're refering to, but the point was that the car was too close to the riders, the commisares eventually told DC that they had to back off. It was clearly a tactic to prevent other team cars from coming through. I think I saw Lance go back to his car for something about 4 times when it should only have taken one time to get what he needed. That kind of action disgusts me, not very sportsman like.

Lance was alone once again but he won anyway.

Very impressive stage. Tomorrow there might be even greater show.

Basso was great. It was clear he is riding for the podium and not for the yellow. Great riding in the second part of the race after hard Giro. Basso and Ullrich are the main candidates for the rest two places in the podium.

Landis was also great and I think he might have some chances for the podium. He is riding very smart and he gains maximum from every stage. I hope tomorrow will be good for him as well.

I think Rassmussen is starting to pay for his attack last Sunday and his ITT is pretty weak and he has little chances for the top3.

Lepheimer is stable and maybe he also has something to say in this tour.

I have to admit Mancebo is better this year than he was in 2004 but anyway he is losing to his rivals a little bit and he must not be in top 3 in Paris.

specially when T-Mobile had more riders up front and DC had only,it was vino who was coming from the back on the descent that gave bottles to ullrich and kloden.

I didn't see him give any bottles. It's not just bottles that are needed, energy gels especially, to give you that added kick. Looks like Lance got his gel and none of the other riders from other teams were able to get something from the car. The roads being very narrow in the Pyrenees mean that cars can only come though when one pulls out, but DC were reluctant to pull out and allow the others though.
