The question was asked "who was the guy that did (beat LA)" : and the answer is Miguel Indurain.
(Riis did as well but LA had retired from the 1996 TDF by the time Riis won it).

LA better than a 100% Indurain ?
Let's leave that discussion to another day shall we ?
There are plenty of other pertinent topics here to discuss.

I dont think he should- it all depends how he feels- maybe a couple of good TDF's will do before he retires.

Random thought:

Although Ullrich hasn't beaten Armstrong in the Tour, he did beat him at the 2000 Olympics. Now that's gotta count for something.

Did anyone see Jan's brother being interviewed on ITV2 in the UK tonight ? He is the mechanic for T-Mobile and they were interviewing him about how he cut the cycle computer thingy from Vino's back wheel when Vino was riding at 50km per hour........ He looked like a nightclub bouncer and you wouldn't want to met him in a dark alley... he was way scary ! Also sounded dumb as dogsh*t as welll.... no doubt gives Jan all his tactical advise....

hey, go easy on stefan!
If memory serves right he won bronze in the european championchip (junior) in 800m running, either they said it on eurosport or it was in one of the videos where he's featured of t-mobile-team.com. Certain 'health reasons' not specified forced him to retire at a young age.

I know know I should but he was a big lad ! He even had the trademark Jan earring in his right ear ! I can imagine Jan and Stefan cutting up the dance floors in downtown Munich trying to pulls chics... team Ullrich would of done some damage !

Yes I saw it, but what made him sound as 'dumb as dogshit'? If anything the journalist was as dumb as dogshit asking him if he was ''scared of cutting off vino's thingamagig'.
I don't know what Stefan was when he was younger, he doesn't look too athletic. You may be confusing him with Thomas Ullrich who had to quit cycling because of knee injury?

what do you think jan would look like after sitting still for 15 years? :P

"The elder brother of Jan, Stefan, is also a large sportsman but in athletics. Like Jan, it attended a School of the Sports and was even champion junior of GDR of the 800 meters. But, it had to prematurely stop its career because of problems of health. Stefan was then reconverted into mechanics and worked during three years for the German federation of cycling. Then, with unemployment, Jan made engage in the Bianchi team. Today, Stefan prepares the bicycles of his/her brother."

There is a third Ullrich brother ? Geez Mr.Ullrich must of had some strong spe*m ! Would of hate to have seen the play fights in the Ullrich household..... they would of beaten the crap out of each other..... !

Seriously the ITV2 reporter was speaking some bad German and the questions weren't great..... It was Stefen and he was ok… just had the ‘border guard’ attitude….

I have read parts of Ullrich's autobiography and the boys had a very sad upbringing similar to that of Lance... there Dad was an arse and a drunk and beat all the boys.... not nice stuff....

Yep as far as I know he's another brother. Kinda like how you don't know that the osbournes have another sister.

Jan's autobiography is 'all or nothing' but it's in german and they never did an english version. Jan's fan's aren't just german you know.

The book goes into his love of food ! He tells the readers that after he left the GDR sports camp that he eating habits changed as it wasn't controlled and he could not get enough of Mars bars ! True !

Lance has a sister as well does he not ? Maybe she can climb d'Huez in under 21 minutes ?

I think she is a half sister.... daughter of his father but to another mother.... she was in the car when Lance's Dad tried to find him when he heard he had cancer...... but they could not find his house..........

The book is a good read and less of the PR marketing pump up that Lance's book is... he actually talks about the bad things in his life and his weakness’ and failings..... the thing that really comes across is his love for his fellow competitors... this attitude may of not won him more than one TDF but he really is a patron of the peleton and every gets on with him really well... he had just started learning French because he is so big with the French riders and the public and he couldn’t speak to them !
