Eurosport are reporting that several ladies on the team are in a very serious condition in hospital, as a result of that accident.
Others have multiple injuries, but are not in any danger. I hope Evans can finish in first place as a tribute. |

OP after the stage: "I've accomplished a life's dream! I knew there would be a break and when I saw it go I knew I had to get across to it. I tried and tried, and it worked... I'm 10th overall, I have a stage win... What else can you ask for?"

Evans up to 7th.... is that the highest GC placing for an Australian ever ? I think Phil Anderson was top 10 in 1983........

That's what I was going to post!!! Maybe he learned something from Big george on Sunday. ![]() Seriously, I'm glad he got the win. When I heard he was in the break I was pulling for him. Funny how these things change around isn't it? L

Great win for Pereiro!
Good to see Heras up in there for a bit today. And Evans out mixing things up.

It would be nice if the Tour organizers did something tomorrow. What an awful tragedy.

Each of the three sites I monitor to keep up with the stage updates (no access to a television in the mornings ) noted that Evans repeatedly was flicking his elbow to his fellow break-mates asking them to pull through -- no go by Pereiro. Evans wanted to gain time today; so did Pereiro Sunday (no doubt the stage win was Pereiro's major priority on Sunday, but the point remains -- a domestique has no obligation to help when he's part of a breakaway, if his team captain is in the GC chase. As I noted in the other thread, this view is corroborated by many other cycling fans and experts -- there was a great discussion of it today on velonews.)All that being said, I think it's great that Pereiro got the win today, as he certainly deserved to be a winner on Sunday. What is lost on some of you is that there need not be only one "deserving" competitor for each stage. Hincapie rode a perfect tactical race on Sunday; the fact that Pereiro tried and failed to get away from Hincapie to negate the latter's superior sprinting ability doesn't make George any less deserving. Unless, of course, you have issues with Hincapie that go beyond cycling . . . |
