Where to begin ? It seems to me that Riis and/or Basso are trying to pull the wool over our eyes here. I think Basso hasn't been any more aggressive than he was last year - namely he is only interested in consolidating his place on the podium instead of having the confidence to try to overhaul LA. I saw Basso answering some questions on Eurosport tonight and he was trying to talk up his willingness to have a go at LA. I don't think that is on the cards, if his demeanour was anything to go by. |

I saw that as well... it appears that Riis does all the hardtalking on Armstrong and Basso just says he trying........ he has been good this year but everytime he attacks L.Armstrong is right on his wheel... even if there was another week of mountain stages I still can't see him taking a minute out of armstrong let alone 3..........

Not likely! It would be a fluke. I believe that GC contenders will ride a safe stage in 19 and go for all on Saturday. Jan has ridden am amazing race. Take away Lance, take away two crashes and you got Jan with his second win. I still maintain he was in very good form this year. Just my opinion of course but Basso is coming of age and the writing is on the wall. All in all a good tour.

It's been an interesting TDF, I have to admit. A lot of subplots involved but interesting nonetheless. Basso has been impressive but I still don't get that confident feeling about him actually believing that he can win. He is riding for second place whether he intends to or not. JU - what can one say ? The crashes didn't help for sure but I never did think that he would win overall to be honest. I didn't think LA would win overall either. As long as LA is there, JU will never win the TDF : too many times he has been beaten. As for LA : I thought that with his form in P-N and his announcing his retirement that winning would not have been feasible. As of now, he will win his 7th. Vino and Kloden and Mobile : it now appears that they were never as united as they said they were for this TDF. Therefore it was never on the cards that TM would provide a winner for the TDF, going up against a united DC team. Vino's stage win was superb though. Rasmussen : a great TDF, superb in fact. I just hope it's all kosher. Hincapie : glad to see him have his day, just wish the tactic was different to get it. Pereiro : superb TDF : he fought all the way. Reminded me of Voigt with his fighting spirit. McEwan - the sprinter of the TDF for me. Voigt/Boonen ; both honourable mentions. Cunego/Petacchi/Simoni/Freire : your presence was missed. Parra : what I would have given to see the star of the Giro climbing the Alpes and Pyrennee. Unfortunately the Columbians team aren't in the Pro-Tour : more is the pity. Heras & Beloki : I hope that they're saving themselves for the Vuelta in ofur weeks time. Cadel Evans : got better as the TDF progressed and has shown himself to be a real prospect. Leipheimer : very impressive too : consistent. Finally Valverde : what a talent and it was a shame he couldn't continue to Paris. People who have something to worry about : Landis - Moreau - Mayo : |

Excellent re-cap, L-man. I never really considered the possibility that Heras and Beloki, having underperformed early in this Tour, might have simply decided to use it as training for the Vuelta on their home turf. I'd love to see Beloki have a good result there -- he's worked so hard for so little since his horrifying tumble in 2003.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think I've actually seen Basso seriously attacking Armstrong when they were one on one. Once jan disappears he just seems to stop all the attacks and is content to work with Armstrong to put time on the rest of the field. Riding for second indeed. |

For the simple reason LA is a better rider...........and BASSO DID try.......but he just couldn't get rid of LA! He certainly tryed more then in 2004.......LA is just the strongest. Period!

Not sure about this one... Saiz has stated that Heras must ride the Giro next year instead of the Tour !

Jep, they think Heras is more a giro-vuelta rider then a TDF rider! Which is true........less pressure! No one can deal with pressure it seems........Rasmussen also said that he's getting exhausted from all the media attention......
