Djg obviously your not a rugby fan. The ginger monster is Neil Jenkins.

No, the taff trail isn't suitable for roadbikes.

Yes it is gravel paths, some tarmac and in places mud (but not much). but it is great just to get on there and not have to worry about traffic.

Do you have a Mtb, because if you do I recommend that you get on a train to Merthyr and cycle back home down the trail, or of course you could cycle up and backdown.
Nah I've only got a road bike so that would be no good for me. Pity as the cars in Cardiff are crazy so riding on the roads is no good most of the time/place.

Djg the once or twice that I've cycled around Cardiff it was no fun.

I'll never forget that little old lady who decided she wanted to pull over and park her car, it's just a pity that she didn't realise that I was cycling there.

Thank god I was on the Mtb, it's the only time I've done a sideways bunnyhop onto the pavement.

Come to think of it, that's the last time I cycled in Cardiff.

I get the impression that no drivers know we are there. even the ones that do have no idea of the rules of the road. I got some driver beeping his horn at me the other day and sticking his fingers up cos he couldn't pass me - thing is he was trying to overtake where it is illegal to overtake ie on a a pedestrain crossing inbetween the pavement and a concrete central reservation. Kill the lot of 'em I say.

Well having said that, "overtake" implies a well planned manouveur allowing plenty of time and space, not skimming past me 2 inches from my body. I have to go riding at 8am on a Sunday morning or it is just too dangerous and Cardiff is only a little city (but the traffic is getting really bad now even in the middle of the day), I can't imagine living in London.

Does anyone know of some magic, wonderous land where there are lots of tarmac roads but no cars?

Maybe I could get a Mt Bike but I just spent £400 on a road bike so it might be good to ride it sometime!

There are no cars but cycling around an island 3.5 miles long by 1.5 miles wide might get a bit monotonous.

I used to live in London for a couple of years, and training used to mean struggling with black cabs and big red buses. No to mention the cold

Itsop the cold has finally arrived , this morning's commute was the first time for months that I've had to wear gloves, but I should be thankful that it was still dry.

Hey Djg23!

The COUNTRY roads up here (N.e. England) are fairly quiet, but compared to the near tropical S.W. it does get kind`a parky at times 8)

Hehe I might just move up north, not just for the biking which would be great, but it would be nice to be able to afford to buy a house! Cardiff is getting really 'spensive. One bedroom flats at £100,000 plus are a little out of my price range and as for the 4 bed barratt houses at £380,000 I don't think so! Maybe I could learn to love the cold!
