... some of *us* will be conducing a bicycle vs. car commuter style race tomorrow. Listen in at 7.45am (ish) for the kick off on Red Symons show.

Please don't place any bets on this, we'll try our best to cane down to Southbank and beat the car....

Pray, cross fingers...May The Force Be With Us...

good luck!

May winds and traffic lights be on your side

Heard your 'opponent' on air this arvo already predicting a loss (for him)

Chris was on the radio just before 7:45am with her fellow competitor
at Northcote. Said she was riding a lightweight road bike, and gave
away her route. The car might have some trouble following her around
the back of the MCG :-)

Expect to hear her again on Jon Faine's program in a few minutes (8:30am).
This should be available as a pod cast at about 11am.

There doesn't seem to be a live Real stream for Melbourne.

Chris was just heard on ABC 774. She took 24 minutes, while the car took 35 minutes. Well done. Chris did a good job of promoting cycling.

fdutch left from North Balwyn at 8:44am, against Gabi in a bus. Unfortunately they waited until the bus was in sight. The bus commuter needs a 7 minute handicap to account for the average waiting time. fdutch says it takes 40 minutes, so expect to hear him at about 9:30am. Jon asked fdutch, "How many times have you been knocked off your bike?" fdutch said once, and
said that the hazards of cycling were exagerated (not those words though).

Time for me to commute by bike to work...

That was because he normally rides in. He probably knew how long it
was going to take by bike and car.

She let slip that it was all downhill in the morning though, so uphill
tonight

Saved it by saying something along the lines of "but look at my
quads"!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!

We blitzed it!

We left at 8:40am
I arrived at Fed Square at 9:15
Gabby Arrived (by Bus/tram) at 8:40!!!

Had a nice chat with 'negative-norman' John Faine whilst donning
coffees waiting for her arrival

Big thanks to Lama.
Whilst he helped me cut approx 10mins off my usual cruisy-commute
He had this rather annoying habit of showing off his prowess on them uppy bits
and even then he was going easy!
I think he also needs to attach some fairings or something as he is a
crap windbreak!!!

cheers all

Well done!

Gotta love proving to all those car drivers that it really is slower to take the car in peak hour and we all knew the bus is even slower. Maybe there will be hundreds of new cyclists taking to the streets soon. Or maybe not.

Reminds me I REALLY have to ride to work.

I shoulda taken Red Symons advice and stopped in Brunswick Street & gone for a java!

Superb ride in - except for lower end of Wellington Street (yes, YarraBUG made enquiries about that last year, due to be re-sheeted in next CoY budget!)...and of course...Swan Street Bridge. That's always a clusterfcuk.

Left Northcote: 7.45am - ish

Arrive Southbank: 8.09am

The lovely Bikesoiler (my domestique/draft boy), rep from a Metropolitian Transport Forum (she rode in from Footscray) and a VicRoads VIP were relaxing up upstairs in the ABC lounge when Jeremy finally rocked up, at approx twenty past eight.

In all, the Commuter Race was a brilliant 'populist' exercise, and on the day, football WAS the winner. I declare it Socceroo Day, all day.

Heh. "How many times have you been hit?"

Regular car commuters probably think he doesn't know the best way to
get there by car, then.
