Oooohh you bested me by 0.01W, that hurts haha...I might be overly optimistic, but I would like to get as close to 300W as possible this season

I started training with power (Powertap Pro) on November 1st last year with stats of:

Age: 33
FTP: 261W
Weight: 82.0kg
Ratio: 3.18 W/kg

Now, just under 4 months later those stats look like this:

FTP: 322W (increase of 61W)
Weight: 76.0kg (decrease of 6.0kg)
Ratio: 4.23 W/kg (increase of 1.05W/kg)

Rmur - What sort of times were/are you getting for 10/25mile TTs with your 4.35W/kg??

Whew big increases in power there. Congrats on that.

Re power, W/kg and speed/time, it's a bit of a mug's game. Pure uphill to hilly courses are dominated by W/kg whereas flat to rolling courses are dominated by W/Cda (aero drag).

Then throw in wind, ambient temps & pressure (density), traffic, etc ... there are many more variables in the mix even if you know your CdA well from wind-tunnel or field testing.

I have revised mine due to trainer power overestimation - the new value is - if anything - a slight underestimation (5% or so).....but I lost a kilo too (over the winter!) so I'm happy....

up another 10W or 30W since October 1st. I've reached my 2007 FTP goal already so either press on to the summit or acclimatize here for a while?

Outstanding...

How do you know if it is truly the summit if you don't press on...?

How have you been training to increase your FTP? Do you do 20's?

AndROOb, This may be off the actually topic of the thread but is related and of importance to understand. This is not as simple as on race day you will able to (I guess being more motivated) as yzfrr11 stated yes that helps you mind is a very powerful thing. My educated guess is that currently your anaerobic metabolism is more activated, which will make your perceived effort seem harder at this time. What is going on is actually your aerobic system is working extra hard to utilize the lactate that is produced through anaerobic metabolism. Note lactate is only produced through anaerobic metabolism. As you prepare for your upcoming races the balance of Aerobic and Anaerobic metabolisms will shift if you hit your peak right, and know how to adjust training to do so. Also using average power from a set of intervals only for estimating FTP is better than nothing though does not tell the complete story measuring what is going on metabolically through lactate testing. Everyone should also understand that FTP is not a one size fits all distances, I commonly use different ratios of 60min FTP for my athletes depending on their lactate and power profiles. Note that most standard lactate testing protocols used in most cases overestimates (yes it is an estimate not an exact) what the FTP when 3min stages are used and do not take into account the contribution of anaerobic metabolism to the individual athletes state of training. On another note few use lactate testing during actual training sessions and is of greater value than lab controlled testing sessions which will show long term adaptations. So there is not an easy answer if by race day you will possibly be able ride at your estimated FTP for the full 40K.

Best result: 23:30 for a 10 mile TT last summer.

I have been questioning my FTP which, correct me if I am wrong, is my 1 hour power too? Well I did a 2x20 session out on a TT course I use frequently, and although I completed the 2x20's @ (232wAP/234wNP), theres no way I could have maintained this power for 1 hour.
Can someone put me right on this please?
