Yes, it is kind of sad when we guys reach the age at which a woman of the same age is no longer age-appropriate. (I reached that point about 25 years ago.) |

Not a bad life at all my friend...and based on the age of your wife I would say your t-levels should be pretty good also...
![]() On a serious note it seems to me set aside your genetics, your body is well conditioned from a good deal of hard work and a good deal of using your smarts when it comes to planning the hard work. I do believe that nutrition and recovery are 50% of the equation in any training. -js Quote:

1) true. My brother was a runner at Villanova in the early 80s when they were the premiere program and he can still beat my butt on the bike with very minimal training. Distance running background is more conducive to cycling than a wrestling background 2) true also. I don't even have the full weekend between kid's sports and other activities, including dirt biking and camping through the summer and the work left over from the week. 3) Silly true. I have been heavily into a whole body weight training program which in and of itself is extremely taxing. Goals of planche pushups (no feet on the ground); front lever pull ups (body horizontal while pulling up) and pistols with kettlebells are not in any way compatible to cycling. Plus, I can't neglect basic weight exercises like bench presses or deadlifts 5) Patience. No, I want to be the fastest local club rider, included in all the legal rags as a "super lawyer" and be the top trial lawyer around, and be able to do pretty advanced level gymnastics level exercises, ride my dirt bike faster than anyone else, bench 250, ---all at the same time. Meanwhile I have 4 kids and am over 40. Why should I have to wait to progress like everyone else? 6)yes, I love my compact crankset So what's your point. This still doesn't explain why every workout I am not making rapid gains, or why I am melting down after a pretty steady 10 weeks of intense workouts Like tyson, I also have a pretty smoking hot wife, but no age difference. |

Huh, where did I say anything about a pretty smoking hot wife. Smoking hot Japanese woman is an oxymoron. Tyson

This mornining weighed in at 72.8kg and falling. No donuts, cake or sweets since the 26th, except for 1 Mars Bar last Friday. And that's the plan - one Mars Bar every Friday. Still have 20 odd Mars in the fridge. They'll go bad if I just leave them. It turns out that 2030 is in fact 2037, which will make me 95! Now that's a tall order.Have changed my workouts a little. After an L4 workout, for no reason other than the need to get used to turning the pedals at a high wattage, I do 4x1+ @ 400watts. I figure if I can do them after a hard workout, when I come to do 400watts in my VO2Max sessions beginning the last week in August, they should be a piece of cake. Tyson

Ah good to see you are still on track 400w wow!
I'm no where near that just yet but l like the way you think, you give your body no other option but to adapt to your training routine or else you starve it from sweets, I think Aussie track cyclist Ryan Bailey does the oppisite when his training starts to platau his coach sends him out for take away (KFC I think) says it works everytime, but l think l'll follow your lead and reward myself once a week, my training skedule is similar to yours and hasn't let me down thus far this morning 65.5kg & my 1x30m intervals are hovering around 275-290w so both of us are on track for 5w/kg. Keep us updated with you progress there are plenty of us waiting/wanting to see how far you can go but it doesn't sound like your even close to your limits yet. |

Tyson? first JS calls them anal, now you're blasting all the ladies on looks. We need to be a little easier on our japanese friends. I am sure that in a country of several million plus, there is a fair share of hot smoking ladies. ![]() |

We have a language barrier problem here. You know, US English/UK English. I read pretty as meaning very, and hot smoking as passionate between the sheets. As for pretty looking, yeah there are many, many hot looking girls, but looks, believe me are deceiving. (Have lived in Japan on and off since 1967) There are cultural reasons for this phenomenon - let's just say, a different mindset from Western women and in particular when compared with searing hot latin women. Well, now I see why you have an unfair advantage. My wife is latin, (at least in part: Puerto Rican/Italian descent) Maybe if I was married to a more sedate japanese girl, I would have already passed the 300 watt mark. But we all have our distractions and temptations. I can resist the Mars bars, but temptations of the flesh can keep me off the bike from time to time. |

Keep up these cultural attacks and I am going to call our friend Tonyzackery My wife's family is very traditional and honors both cultures. At funerals, the female members wear traditional black to honor the italian side; and tube tops to honor the P.R. side. It's not easy for 70 year old abuela to stir the tomato "gravy" while wearing a black tube top, the sauce tends to splatter around the bulging midrift. Plus, if I never met her family, I would never have learned how to roast a whole goat on a city street; or raise chickens in the back seat of a car. Fortunately, my Irish side of the family is too drunk to notice. All kidding aside, she is a lawyer and would be more likely to hurl a Prada shoe at me than a pot and pan. Her family has been in the US for at least as long as mine. |

Tyson, I posted elsewhere, but here are your new goals based upon the performance of the Chipolte team in the tour. We want to see a one hour TT at about 5.2 watts/kg right after a warm up of 2-3 hours at 4 watts per kg.:
For most of the guys we've got at the Tour an average day on the bike will be somewhere in the 3 to 4 watt per kg range including zeros. If you don't include zeros, most of our guys will have a power output when pedaling of about 3.5 to 4.5 watts per kg depending on the course. In general, a hard effort for our riders starts at about 4 watts per kg (that's 280 watts for a 70 kg rider) – a power output they can hold for well over 3 hours if pressed and if fed properly (meaning a lot). At about 5 watts per kg, things start to feel very hard. It's the speed that the main field tends to roll at while climbing and a power output that our guys can hold for up to 1.5 hrs. At about 6 watts per kg, the leaders are off the front on the big climbs. This is a power output that the best climbers on our team can hold for 20 to 30 minutes. At this power and this time frame, we're talking an all out effort. And if sustained repeatedly over 3 to 4 major passes on a 5 to 6 hour mountain day, we're talking a Grand Tour winner. |

Tony, They're not . . . that's the point. People laugh and joke at serious subjects to take the edge off. As I said, if you read in context, my wife's family (and my own) does not fit any cultural stereotype-despite her Latina heritage, and for that matter, its my own children's heritage. If you listen to George Lopez, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Woody Allen, and for that matter any relevant comedian, past or present, you hear a lot of the same type of self-deprecating cultural humor. On the other hand, Jesse Helms. . . . not funny, and not sympathetic even in death, (although the postumous revelation that Strom Thurmond fathered a mixed race out of wedlock certainly was ironic, for its sheer hippocracy alone.) My Prada wearing lawyer wife supposedly cursing at me in Spanish while she throws pots and pans, is a pretty funny image. And, I don't believe that she (or any other female family member of hers) ever wore a tube top, to a funeral or elsewhere, that's why the image was so funny. (She does make a mean tomato gravy though). Japanese race promotors sending Tyson on a 35km detour, was also pretty darn ironic, if not funny to everone else but Tyson. . . because it was inconsistent with the stereotype of the ordinarily meticulous Japanese. Believe me, if you follow the trend of the US Supreme Court's jurisprudence, you will be much more concerned about the so called humorless "color-blind" Justices, than the ones that recognize cultural differences and realize that there is still work to be done --even if they attempt to remedy discrimination with a sardonic sense of humor. I think it is obvious to anyone that read any of these offhand jokes (other than apparently to you) that they were made with affection and not with any intent to denegrate a particular race or ethnicity. But this is Tyson's thread about his personal power quest so I will let it go and stay on topic in the future. |

One last post though, "tomato gravy" ???? What the hell is that? Did you say stuff like that to her parents? My mom would have hit you with a pot also.
