Default took the avanti for a spin...

hey guys! i took the avanti giro for a spin (thats the 9 speed version, not the newer 10 speed)... well it was fun! road bikes make me smile, cos they're so much faster than mtbs. it felt very stiff, both good and bad: my power went straight to the ground, and the gearing gives my big mtb legs awesome acceleration (at least i think so...). the stiffness also rattles me around a bit... tho i guess i shouldnt have gone over the speed bumps etc.

has anyone here got exp with avati frames? are they good quality etc?

i also spoke to tim, the shop owner about single speeds and it turns out he is a ss head! yay! maybe ill convert my mtb into a ss, add a rigid fork and hit the trails... mmmm

ill let you know how the giant treats me tomoz...

Probably the most important thing is getting a bike that fits your body correctly.
- At 40Kmh, 80% of the energy is used on the wind and 20% on the tyre. A sizeable proportion of the wind in hitting your body.
- The more efficiently the energy can get from your body to the road in a forward motion, the faster you will go for the same effort.
- There is an optimum point between comfort , performance, cost, duability, reliability etc. It is personal choice where that point is.

I ride an OCR2, so I have chosen a point that is higher on comfort, lower on cost. My 1980's steel frame racer is probably slightly quicker over short distances, however it would rattle my fillings out, if I tried to ride it 80k+ and sap my performance due to the body being hammered.

well i'm happy to have more performance from the frame... i felt like it was me riding, not the bike. i pushed myself and it felt great! and as far as fit goes, he took measurements noth the first time i went in there, (to find the frame size i'd need) and then when i went for the test ride, he fitted me properly. it was very differnet from mtb, and im hoping subsequent rides will let me know what im looking for exactly...

thx!
